Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve reaction to stain due to carbon without sacrificing purification- ability, by letting burr, which is formed when welding an earth electrode to a metal fittings, remain as it is, and by shaping an auxiliary earth electrode by the burr.
CONSTITUTION: Welding burr formed to a joining portion between an earth electrode 8 and a fittings 7 is used as an auxiliary electrode 9 by letting the welding burr remain besides a normal spark gap g1, and a by-gap g2 is shaped between the electrode 9 and an outer circumference of an ignition portion of an insulator. When carbon accumulates on a surface of the ignition portion of the insulator and high-tension current leaks from carbon, spark is not formed at a main gap g1, but mixture is ignited because an electric field concentrates at the auxiliary earth electrode 9 by the burr and spark is generated at the by-gap g2.
