Abstract

PURPOSE: To minimize the heating capacity of a heater required for keeping the residual water in a pump above the freezing point when the pump is out of operation.
CONSTITUTION: A suction port 2 of a centrifugal pump 1 is connected with a suction pipe 4, an immersion heater 5 is inserted in and supported by an intermediate seat 6 put between the suction port 2 and the suction pipe 4, and a discharge port 3 is connected with a discharge pipe 7 equipped with a check valve 8. An external connecting pipe 11 made of heat conductive material such as copper is fitted to communicate the upper and lower parts of the residual water in the pump 1. A throttle 12 made of malconductive material is fitted to the upper portion of the connecting pipe 11 to curb the discharge water flowing in the pipe without fear of freezing. An impeller shaft 10 of the pump 1 is driven by a motor through a coupling 9.
