Abstract
PURPOSE:To save exhaust gas cooling water while improving the thermal efficiency of the gas by employing exhaust gas obtained in the reduction of iron ore or the like with the shaft furnace for cooling the reduced iron and the fuel of reforming furnaces. CONSTITUTION:A high temperature reforming furnace gas 28 mainly composed of CO and H2 are blown into a shaft furnace 1 to reduce material 30 such as iron ore and pellet, thereby producing reduced iron. In the process, a pre-reduction chamber 7 is provided in the furnace. The exhaust gas which has passed through this chamber contains large amount of H2O produced in the reduction of the iron ore by H2. The exhaust gas from a sub-exhaust port 11 via the pre-reduction chamber 7 still large amount of H2 and CO. The former passes through a Venturi scrubber 8 and cooler for removal of dust and cooling. Thereafter, it is blown from below the shaft furnace for use in cooling reduced iron. The latter can be effectively utilized for the fuel of a reforming furnace 25 as remaining hot without being cooled as CO and H2 are left in large amount.
