Abstract

PURPOSE: To enable operating temperature of a liquid crystal display element to be readily controlled with good responsiveness by providing a heating element which also serves as a temperature sensor on a substrate or near the same.
CONSTITUTION: A heating element 7 such as SnO2 is provided on the surface of one glass substrate 1 of the liquid crystal display device and forms a bridge circuit 8 together with reference resistances RA thru RC and a balance poing adjusting variable resistor (r). A DC power source 10 is connected to a voltage controlling transistor TR between the points X, Y of their connection. The TR is controlled by the output of an error amplifier 9 via driving circuit 11 and its collector-emitter voltage is made variable. Hence, the voltage E-e having been variably set of the voltage E of the power source 10 is applied to the circuit 8. This causes the heating element 7 to energize and evolve heat thereby heating the liquid display element and indicating the resistance value corresponding to the operating temperature of the liquid crystal display device.
