Abstract
PURPOSE:To provide an aq. quenching medium improved in quenching performance and post-quenching washability which contains as essential ingredients high polymer anion derived from conjugated dienemaleic acid derivative having a prescribed end group, and specific cation, Mg ion, specific anion, and water. CONSTITUTION:Conjugated diene-maleic acid derivative copolymer with a prescribed end group made from formulas I and II is reacted with a base such as NaOH etc. to form a high polymer anion A, which is blended with, as essential ingredients, 0.5-5.0 eq. B consisting of one or more of cations Na<+>, K<+>, Li<+> and ammonium cation per unit maleic acid derivative of the high polymer anion A, 0.3-2.0 eq. Mg<2+> ion C, 0.5-3.0 eq. org. carboxylate anion D, which forms water-soluble Mg cpd. by combination with Mg<2+>, and with water 5-1,000 times the total wt. of A, B, C, and D to form an aq. quenching medium having both aq. and oleaginous characteristics.
