Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent the transmitting characteristics of a cable from being deteriorated by changing the core of an optical fiber in a taper shape in the longitudinal direction of the cable so that a fiber having a smaller core diameter in the optical transmitting direction may be connected with a fiber having a larger diameter.
CONSTITUTION: The optical fiber cores 7, 8 and 9 at the both ends of a cable are gradually reduced in a taper form in the longitudinal direction of the cable. A fiber having a smaller core diameter in the transmitting direction is connected with a fiber having a larger core diameter thereby to constitute an optical transmission passage. Since, in that way, the core diameter of the fiber is enlarged at the back of the connected portion along the transmitting direction, the loss in transmission can be reduced to a remarkably low level so that the transmitting characteristics can be prevented from being deteriorated while being held at a satisfactory level.
