Abstract

In a speech synthesizer providing simultaneously a plurality of speech outputs from a computer DR, Fig. 1, spectrum signals are transmitted in T.D.M. over a path MSK and excitation signals are transmitted over separate paths EXC 1-m firstly to be applied to a delay network producing a chain of N pulses spaced #t for routing to the appropriate speech channel through a distributer MDEX, and secondly to be applied through logic and repeater circuits to control the separation of the spectrum function signals for application to the respective group of modulators pertinent to the channel. This latter is achieved by pulses from a tapped delay line VXT 1 , Fig. 5, connected in the respective excitation pulse paths opening gates T5 11-1n to pass the spectrum data from MSK via two stages of storage SP: digital to analogue converters DAW and smoothing circuits GL 0 . Repetition of the excitation function pulses to open in conjunction with repeated excitation pulses from MDEX the m gates Ti1-Tin, Fig. 3, leading to the modulator Mil-Min of modulator set MSI is effected by one of a number of repeaters REPI-K, Fig. 6, through an OR gate OT1 and an AND gate UTREP the repeated signals being transmitted to OR gates OT 2 via another set of AND gates UTA 11 - UTA 1m . An incoming pulse on EXC1 opens AND gate UT11 to actuate a bi-stable multivibrator MM11 which opens AND gate UTA11 to pass N pulses at #t intervals from repeater 1 which has been activated by the same input pulse through OR gate OT1. The input gates and repeaters are busied over line b1.
