1348263 Fluid pressure brakes; indicating failure TOKICO Ltd 10 May 1971 [9 May 1970] 14007/71 Headings F2E and F2F A duel hydraulic brake system comprises two independent circuits connected to a tandem master cylinder 13 and a wheel cylinder 2 having a stepped piston 3 and two independent hydraulic pressure chambers 4, 5 defined by the piston and cylinder, the chambers 4, 5 being pressurized at different levels by the stepped chambers of the master cylinder and the piston 3 having a single seal 6 which allows fluid communication between the pressure chambers if the seal fails. Floats in the reservoirs of the master cylinder operate contacts to energize an alarm lamp 32 when the liquid level falls, due to such failure, and in a modified system, Fig. 2, an oil pressure sensing unit 140 connected to both circuits and having a stepped piston 141 energizes a lamp 132 in the event of pressure failure in one circuit.
