These objects of the present invention and other objects which will become more apparent from the following description.
The target is provided by a protective housing for optical components consisting of a substrate made of optical material.
Wherein the optical material comprises an optical fiber exiting the housing.

The housing defines a closed internal cavity in which the optic is located.
This cavity creates a stress, strain or pressure gap between the housing and the optic.

I have.
Due to the provision of a certain amount of play, the support, mounting
Any machine added to the housing by a trap or the like or by differential thermal expansion
With respect to the transmission of mechanical stress, the housing is interrupted or isolated from the optical component. Scratch
This interruption can result in stresses that can destroy or damage optical components.
, The fragile optical components are protected.
According to a preferred embodiment of the present invention, the housing comprises at least one flexible member.
Wherein the flexible member is capable of providing any possible vibration of the optical component within the cavity.

It is a cross-sectional view showing a housing.
Preferred embodiments of the invention
1 and 2 which are partial sectional views of a housing according to the present invention.
I want to be illuminated. The housing has a rectangular parallelepiped shape and is entirely symmetric with respect to the plane P.
And therefore have both ends as shown in these figures.
The housing essentially has a base [1], which is generally flat.
It has a row hexahedral cavity [2] and is closed by a lid [3]. The lid [3]
Accepts a self-adhesive label identifying the optics contained within the housing
Recess [3]1〕have. The cavity [2] of the base [1]
In order to receive the body-shaped optical component [4], it has a complementary relationship with the shape of the optical component as a whole.
It has the shape of This optical component is traditionally used for optical components such as glass or crystalline materials.
Manufactured with the aid of a substrate made of material. For example, manufactured by ion diffusion

.. is a watertight joint [91], [9TwoBefore exiting the housing between
[81], [8Two], [8Three]. Each fiber optic pair
The connection to the corresponding waveguide end is made by the drop of adhesive product [10i]. one
On the other hand, a larger drop [11] of the adhesive product allows the machine to be combined with the substrate and several sets of optical fibers.
A mechanical connection is ensured.
Such an integrated optical component is disclosed, for example, in the French Patent Application No.
It is better known from 2 674 033. Such optics have M inputs and
Or a multiplexer without N outputs and a multiplexer, in which case
Number of optical fibers exiting one end of the housing and light exiting the other end of the same housing
It is generally different from the number of fibers.
According to an important feature of the invention, the cavity [2] formed in the housing comprises:
On the one hand, between the housing base [1] and the lid [3], on the other hand, the base [1] and the lid [3].
The transmission of large stresses between the lid [3] and the integrated optical component [4] is completely prevented.
It has a size that can hold the optical component [4] with a certain amount of mechanical play.
Therefore, the optical component [4] is not fixed by the adhesive product, and the inside of the cavity [2] is fixed.
The optical components form an integral part of the housing due to the fact that they are easily placed
In the event of a temperature change, each of these two factors
Swells freely and can damage or destroy optics
Completely ensure that the stress caused by the differential expansion is applied to the optical component [4].
Can be prevented.
Since the optical components are shielded from external force, etc., as a structural material of the housing, for example,
Need to take into account the coefficient of thermal expansion in terms of impact resistance or (from a practical point of view)
It is possible to select an optimal material in that it can be molded (molded). Hide
For example, in the catalogs of HOECHST AG and Hoechst Celanese Corporation,
Products designated under the name VECTRA A 130 listed, otherwise polycarbonate

Provide the necessary amount of play for uncoupling around all optical components
Can be. For example, a certain amount of play between opposing end faces of the optical component and the housing.
[J1And a different size play [j] between the optical component and the lid [3].Two]
(See FIG. 1), and two other sizes of play are provided between the opposing surfaces in the longitudinal direction [jThree]
, [JFour] (See FIG. 2). Is illustrative and not restrictive
As an example, for an optical component occupying a space of 50 × 5 × 5 mm, play [j1]
Can be about 0.3 mm.
The existence of play of these sizes solves the problem of absorbing the difference in thermal expansion.
However, under certain circumstances, for example, the support on which the housing is mounted
As a result of the applied cyclical stress, it allows the optical components in the housing to vibrate.
You.
According to a preferred embodiment of the present invention, these vibrations are any vibrations of the optical component.
Mechanical enough to expose the housing while being large enough to counter the occurrence
Reshaping the stress transfer path or the stress transfer path caused by differential (thermal) expansion
Force on one surface of the optical component with a force that is kept small enough to prevent
At least one movable member having a shape pressed against one opposing wall of the cavity;
This is prevented by providing a flexible member in the cavity of the housing.
This flexible member is formed integrally with the base [1] of the housing and is made of an optical component.
When [4] does not exist, the flexible lid has a shape that slightly projects into the cavity.
It is effective to configure with [12]. There are several such lips (e.g.
Two can be provided on each longitudinal wall of the cavity, as shown in FIG. Strange
In a further example, any resonances that may result from vibrations applied to the housing
In order to oppose each other, the forces generated by these lips can be made different.
In another variation, these lips may have a cavity as shown by the dashed line in FIG.
Can be replaced by flexible ribs [13] formed on two opposing longitudinal walls of
it can. These ribs are used to insert the optical component [4] into the housing base [1].
In order to facilitate insertion, the section is triangular and the head is chamfered [131]
It is effective to provide.
FIG. 3 shows a watertight joint [91], [9TwoThe preferred embodiment of the present invention
Hands are provided on the lid [3] and the base [1] to receive them.

When the pressure is increased to a value that damages the optic, these joints
It does not prevent the movement of water vapor from the inside of the ring to the outside.
As shown in FIGS. 1 and 2, these doorways to the outside of the housing

The base [1] and the lid [3] of the housing are formed of plastic material (mold).
Optical component and its protective housing
At the time of assembling such a unit, it is assembled as described later.

It should be done in an acceptable way.
Next, in the pre-assembly position shown schematically in FIG. 4, the lid [3] is placed inside the base [1].

).
This pre-assembly step is performed until the lid is fused to the base, for example, by ultrasonic welding.
(The fusing procedure is not shown) so that the resulting assembly can be easily handled.
I do. During this stage, the lid is in the position shown in FIG. 5, which is a cross-sectional view along the line V--V in FIG.
It is held by an ultrasonic processing head that positions the lid at the final fusion position. During this time,
As shown by reference numeral [19] in FIG. 5, the peripheral surfaces of the lid [3] and the base [1] are in contact with each other.
At the touching position, an appropriate ultrasonic vibration for fusing the lid [3] to the base [1]
The movement is transmitted to the lid [3].
All of these tasks are automated during the process of mounting the optics in the housing.
It is clear that this can be done.
Here, it is clear that the invention makes it possible to achieve the established objectives. sand
That is, from the effects of differential thermal expansion or other mechanical stress that the housing may experience
A protective housing for an integral optical component to be protected is provided. In addition, the present invention
The jing has a simple structure suitable for automating the assembly operation.
Of course, the present invention is not limited to the embodiments described and illustrated herein.
Rather, these embodiments are merely illustrative.
