素を濃縮して得られた酸素濃縮気体を使用した酸素療法
が開発されたことによってその治療法での、医療用酸素
濃縮装置を用いた在宅酸素療法が広く普及するようにな
ってきている。慢性呼吸疾患の患者が在宅酸素療法で使
用する酸素濃縮装置は、家庭内に据え置いて使用するも
のが多い。在宅酸素療法の呼吸疾患患者は、単に家庭内
にいるだけでなく患者の生活の質の向上、病状悪化防
止、リハビリ等の目的で屋外に出かけることが多々あり
その行動範囲を広げることができるような酸素供給方法
が要求されている。この要求を満たすのに、従来は必要
な酸素供給源として、携帯用小型高圧酸素ボンベ、携帯
用小型液体酸素ボンベが主に使用されている。しかし酸
素ボンベや液体酸素の容器内の酸素量は有限であり、外
出先ではボンベへの再充填は出来ない。そのために長時
間使用できる移動型酸素濃縮装置の需要が高まってい
る。移動型酸素濃縮装置にはその使用目的から、小型且
つ軽量、車載可能、移動操作性等が要求される。さらに
屋外使用のため、空気取り入れ口の位置はなるべく地面
からの高くすることでより清浄な空気を吸入できるよう
にし、且つ空気取り入れ口のフイルターの清掃交換の頻
度を考慮して、交換作業の簡便化のために天面の水平面
又は傾斜面に取り付けることが好ましく、同じく操作及
び表示機器類も操作上、同様の位置に配置する事が好ま
しいとされている。酸素濃縮装置は、特に医療用の場合
には機能面の信頼性が重要であり、精巧な機械や電気回
路で構成されていることから、屋外使用における塵埃や
雨天時の雨水等の侵入は酸素濃縮装置に少なからず悪影
響を与える可能性がある。特に酸素濃縮の為に使用して
いる吸着筒内の吸着剤は、水分を吸着すると窒素吸着性
能が極度に低下し、その結果装置本来の酸素濃縮性能が
低下することで呼吸疾患の患者に必要な酸素濃縮気体が
供給出来なくなるという重大な問題を引き起こすことに
なる。作業性や操作性を考慮した場合は前記の通り装置
本体の天面に空気取り入れ口を設けることが望ましい
が、この位置では雨天の場合、直接雨水が空気取り入れ
口に入ることになる。

部4や隙間5が存在し、カバー2の内部はその開口部4
や隙間5により外気と通じている。移動型酸素濃縮装置
は使用していると装置本体1の温度が上昇し、カバー内
部の温度に比べ外気温度が低い場合には、カバー内部の
空気に含まれる水蒸気がカバー内面に結露してカバーの
曇りを生じる。そのため患者は外から操作盤の計器が確
認できなくなるという問題が生じる。この問題を防止す
るためにはカバー内部へ外気が入りやすくし、外気とカ
バー内部の温度差を大きくしないことである。そのため
にカバー2と装置本体1の間にはできるだけ多くの開口
部や隙間を設ける必要があり、図2のようにほぼカバー
の周辺に沿って隙間や開口部が設けられる。開口部はカ
バーの形状で一部分を凸状にすることで得られるが、隙
間は装置本体1の天面の寸法よりもカバー寸法を所定の
隙間分だけ大きくすることで得られる。その場合にはカ
バーは装置本体の数カ所の凸部で支えられた状態となっ
ている。カバーは透明性のある材質であれば使用可能で
あり、無色でなく着色されたものでも、内部の計器類が
