In recent years, the charging device has been changed from a corona discharge type to a charging roller. 2. Description of the Related Art Contact-charging type charging devices, which perform charging in a state where they are in contact with, have advantages such as low generation of ozone, and have been increasingly used. In such a contact charging type charging device, the charging is performed while the charging roller is in contact with the photoreceptor, so that the residual toner remaining on the photoreceptor after transferring the image on the photoreceptor to transfer paper is transferred to the charging roller. May cause charging failure.

When the charging roller rotates, the surface of the charging roller is rubbed with a roller cleaning member to remove extraneous matter (foreign matter) such as toner and paper powder adhered to the surface (for example, see Japanese Patent Laid-Open No. 2-2-2594).

In order to reduce the size of the apparatus as a whole, it is advantageous to adopt a normal type in which the roller cleaning member does not come in contact with or separate from the surface of the charging roller because the mechanism is simpler.

If the roller cleaning member is in constant contact with the charging roller, the ozone will cause the airflow around the charging roller to stagnate. In some cases, an object (NOx) is generated, which results in an abnormal image.

In the type in which the photosensitive member 1 and the photosensitive member 1 are disposed substantially horizontally and contact each other at a horizontal position, the photosensitive member 1 is formed on the upstream side in the rotation direction of the photosensitive member 1 with respect to the pressure contact position between the photosensitive member 1 and the charging roller 49. Ozone, which is heavier than air, tends to accumulate in the V-shaped portion 43, so that the above-described abnormal image is likely to occur.

In an image forming apparatus provided with a cleaning member that abuts even during image formation on the surface to clean the surface of the charging roller, an upstream side in the rotation direction of the photoconductor with respect to a pressure contact position where the photoconductor and the charging roller press against each other, An airflow generating means for generating an airflow near the upstream side in the rotation direction of the pressing position is provided.

Since the airflow is generated by the airflow generation means on the upstream side in the rotation direction of the photoconductor with respect to the pressing position, the ozone does not accumulate there due to the airflow.

The roller cleaning member 22 is, for example, a foam such as a sponge or a brush. , For example, with an adhesive such as a double-sided tape. Therefore, the roller cleaning member 22 is in contact with the surface of the charging roller 9 even during image formation, and the surface is cleaned. The toner image on the photoconductor 1 is transferred onto the paper surface at the timing coincident with the copy. Then, the transfer paper P is conveyed to a fixing unit, where the toner image is melted and fixed by applying heat and pressure, and then discharged to a paper discharge tray or the like. Then, the residual toner remaining on the photoconductor 1 is scraped off by the cleaning blade 11 of the cleaning device 6, and thereafter, the surface of the photoconductor 1 is discharged by the discharge lamp 7. Thereafter, this image forming process is repeated.

This creates an airflow around it. However, the flow of the air is changed by the roller cleaning member 22 which is always in contact with a part of the peripheral surface of the charging roller 9, so that the air flow becomes as indicated by the arrow B, and the photosensitive member 1 and the charging roller 9 are pressed against each other. It does not turn to the left side of the press contact position Tp in FIG.

Nitrogen oxide (NOx) is generated due to the ozone remaining in the portion a on the upstream side in the rotation direction of the photoconductor 1 with respect to the pressure contact position Tp where the pressure roller 9 and the charging roller 9 are pressed against each other. There is a risk of becoming an image. However, in this image forming apparatus, as described above, since the air exhaust duct 24 and the air exhaust fan 25 are provided close to that portion, the air in the portion a on the upstream side in the rotation direction is sucked by the air exhaust fan 25. Since suction (or blowing) may be performed by force, ozone can be prevented from remaining in the portion a on the upstream side in the rotation direction, and a good image can be obtained.

Ozone, which is heavier than air, tends to accumulate in the V-shaped portion 33 to be formed.
Since the case 31 is provided with the opening 32 for allowing the airflow passing through the vicinity of p to flow out of the case 31, the ozone generated during charging does not flow into the airflow and accumulate in the V-shaped portion 33. Therefore, it is possible to prevent the occurrence of an abnormal image due to the accumulation of ozone generated during charging in the V-shaped portion 33.
