示すごとく、抵抗溶接機の対抗する2本の電極チップ間
に溶接加圧により挟持した状態で回転せしめ前記両電極
チップを同時に成形するカッタであって、必要最小厚の
円盤状部材の両面の中心部に、ピンプル形電極チップの
へそ径及びへそ高さに合わせた有底凹部を、また該有底
凹部に続き表面に放射状に間隔をあけて切刃を設けたす
りばち状の窪みを各々同心的に形成したピンプル形電極
チップの成形用カッタ機構により作成することができ

小径で許容寸法公差が1ミリ以下と狭く、小さければ熔
着面積不足となり大きければ連続打点の過程で自己再生
が十分に行われず電極チップ先端面に漸進的に合金層が
累積して溶接不良をきたす。したがってピンプル径は被
溶接物によって種々に異なり、ピンプルを成形する成形
用カッタの選択は種々のピンプル寸法に対応する必要が

に切刃を有すると共に底凹部に続き表面に切刃を設けた
すりばち状の窪みを各々同心的に形成したことを特徴と

ル径を理想とする必要最小径よりも若干大きく設定すれ
ば、溶接過程において自己再生機能は十分には作用せず
電極チップ先端面には漸進的に合金層が累積するが、適
時上記成形カッタにより成形することにより電極チップ
先端面の合金層は切削削除され、電極先端のピンプルは
先端面も含めて初期の状態に再生される。いいかえれ
ば、ピンプル電極のチップ先端面を切削削除すれば自己
再生機能がある程度不十分でもピンプル電極特性を生か
した連続打点性の高い溶接を行うことができる。したが
って、ピンプル径の設定は溶接径以上であればある程度
自由で被溶接物に対して汎用性をもたせることができ

連続して溶接することができ、成形においても電極先端
面を切削する必要もなくピンプル形電極先端の「へそ」
高さのみを1ミリ高さに削り出せばよい。本発明溶接方
法においての被溶接板厚0.8ミリのメッキ鋼板に対す
るピンプル径はφ8高さ3ミリを選定する。(0.8ミ
リ〜2ミリ兼用)ピンプル径はφ8なので連続打点溶接
を進行していく過程において自己再生機能は十分には作
用せず電極先端面に漸進的に合金層が累積し溶接性が悪
くなるにで、従来のドーム形電極の場合と同様に適時ス
テップアップして約20000打点溶接する。(この溶
接過程においてピンプルは消滅し電極先端面も崩れしか
も合金層が厚く累積する)該電極を下記する成形用カッ

に、且つ円周方向に4本、等間隔で形成され、さらに中
心部の凹部2,2aの底面にも切刃8,8aが形成して
ある。上記構成の本発明に係るピンプル形電極チップ成
形用カッタ10を抵抗溶接機の両電極チップ間に挟み
(図示せず)、加圧した状態で基台1を、回転用切り欠
き11を介して図示しない回転機構で矢印方向に回転さ
せれば、成形用カッタ10に形成された渦巻状の切刃3
〜6,3a〜6aによって電極チップは上下同心のピン
プル形に切削成形される。この切削成形過程において中
心部のピンプルに対応する凹部2,2aの底面に形成さ
れた切刃8,8aによりピンプル形電極チップの先端面

具体的には抵抗溶接機の電極チップ間に該溶接機の加圧
により挟持した状態で回転せしめ、前記両電極チップを
同時に成形するカッタ、すなわち必要最小厚の円盤状部
材の両面の中心部にピンプル形電極チップのへそ径及び
へそ高さに合わせた底凹部を、また該底凹部に切刃を有
すると共にピンプル形電極の縦断面形状に対応するすり
ばち状窪み面に切刃を設け、上下両面各々同心的に形成
したことを特徴とする。したがってピンプル形電極の特
徴である電極先端の自己再生機能を若干犠牲にし、その
ために生ずる電極チップ先端の漸進的合金層の累積部分
を、本発明成形用カッタによってピンプルを作成する過
程で迫動的に底面も削除され除去できるために、理想的
なピンプル径の選定にこだわること無く、溶接条件の設
定も従来のドーム形電極の感覚で使用でき、しかもピン
プル形電極チップの自己再生機能特性を活用でき、連続
打点性が高く汎用性のあるピンプル形電極による溶接が
