ccifer-lacca KERR.) is a resinous substance secreted by stick lac. Shellac is 90% alcohol
Around 20-30% dissolved in ether and around 10% in turpentine oil, insoluble in water and soluble in alkaline aqueous solution. Further, the melting point is increased by heating, and the solubility is reduced. Utilizing such properties, it is used in a wide range of applications such as records, varnishes, electrical insulators, and sealing waxes in the industrial field.

Castor oil, which is soluble in alcohol and has good compatibility with shellac, is widely used in the pharmaceutical field. ing. However, castor oil is not specified as a food additive in Japan and cannot be used for food. Also, instead of castor oil, oils such as soybean oil, rapeseed oil, palm oil, coconut oil, and camellia oil can be used, but soybean oil, rapeseed oil, palm oil, and coconut oil become solid at low temperatures. Difficult to handle, soybean oil, palm oil and coconut oil have a unique odor. In addition, in the case of soybean oil or the like, the oil may ooze out on the film surface after coating. On the other hand, camellia oil is not common because it is expensive. Further, when coating is performed only with an alcoholic solution of shellac without using a plasticizer, the strength and the film formation rate are significantly inferior to those in the case where a plasticizer is added due to the influence of the physical properties of shellac itself.

There is a need for a shellac-based coating agent to which a plasticizer is added, particularly a coating agent that can be used for food.

As a result, the use of medium-chain fatty acid triglyceride as a plasticizer makes it possible to obtain a smooth coating film and reduce the adhesion of the coating agent. The present invention was found to be improved and the effect was equivalent to castor oil, and the present invention was completed. Medium-chain fatty acid triglyceride is a food material, has good compatibility with shellac, and has non-volatility and cold resistance.
Tasteless, odorless, non-toxic and hardly oxidized.

A glass plate having a thickness of 5.9 mm and a thickness of 1.3 mm is immersed for 1 second and left at room temperature for 5 minutes. After repeating this operation 15 times, the film was left and dried at room temperature for one day to form a shellac film. The prepared shellac film was evaluated for film appearance, surface condition, film thickness, film quality, and oil and fat bleeding.

The film quality is soft, but the surface is uneven and oil is oozing. In camellia oil formulation 5, the surface condition is good, but the film quality is hard and the film thickness is thin. Rapeseed oil formulation 6 has irregularities on the surface and oil bleeding. On the other hand, Formulation 2 of a medium-chain fatty acid triglyceride has a smooth surface, little bleeding of oils and fats, and a soft and thick film, and has the same effect as castor oil. From these results, it was found that the medium-chain fatty acid triglyceride has excellent properties as a plasticizer for shellac.
