Abstract

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a permanent short-circuit without generating a damage by providing a short-circuit contact having an elastic short-circuit area for forming a short-circuit between contacts opposite to each other. SOLUTION: A contact 2 has an insertion area 20, a connection area and an intermediate area 3 provided between the insertion area and the connection area. Each contact 2 is surrounded by an insulating housing 1 in the intermediate area 3 thereof. A short-circuit contact 4 is arranged at the center of a space between two lines of contacts 2, 2. This short-circuit contact 4 is arranged so that a short-cirtcuit is formed by a short-circuit area 5 between each line of contact 2, 2 opposite to each other. The short-circuit area 5 has elasticity, and even in the case where the contacts 2 arranged in two lines opposite to each other are moved or bent so as to be separated from each other by an external force such as a strong vibration, a short-circuit having high reliability can be formed.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION Permanent or non-destructive short-circuit contacts are well known and disclosed, for example, in U.S. Pat. No. 4,628,818. A metal plate is disposed between two adjacent contacts on one side of the connector housing, for example, round contact pins, at right angles to the insertion direction. The metal plate has a notch for each contact, which is short-circuited. The shape and size of the notch are designed so that the metal plate can be fixed to the contact. For this purpose, the edges of the metal plate have bent metal surfaces, claws or teeth as barbs. Therefore, the diameter of the notch is smaller in some places than the diameter of the contact.

In the case of high quality contacts, which are generally provided with a thin silver or gold plating, this plating can be broken by fitting with these links. Surrounding the contacts with a metal plate requires a minimum contact space. However, in the case of a high-density contact arrangement, this type of metal plate can no longer be used. One reason is that accidental shorts can occur with other contacts, and the other is that it is difficult to manufacture notches of relatively complex shape.

FIG. 5 shows the side (end) of the short-circuit contact 4 respectively.
A front view and a front view are shown. Short-circuit area 5 of short-circuit contact 4
Is formed to have sufficient elasticity by bending it into a ring (or a tube). The insertion region 6 has two fixing elements (barbs) 7 and two shoulders 10 on both side edges. The short-circuit contact 4 is pressed into the slot of the insulating housing 1 by the fixing element 7 and fixed. Insertion area 6 is shoulder 10
Then, pressure is applied by a suitable pushing tool to a slot formed at the center between the two rows of the contacts 2 fixed to the insulating housing 1 and fixed to the insulating housing 1. The short-circuit contacts 4 are opposed to each other by the elastic short-circuit region 5 bent in a ring shape as described above.
The contacts 2 and 2 in the row are short-circuited.

The short-circuit contact 4 is the one of the contacts 2
One is attached to the wall 8 of the insulating housing 1. Therefore, the short-circuit contact 4 is suitable for use in an electrical connector having an extremely sensitive contact 2 such as a contact 2 plated with a noble metal such as gold or silver.

Since the short-circuit region 5 of the short-circuit contact 4 has elasticity, even if the contacts 2 arranged opposite to each other in two rows are moved or bent away from each other by an external force such as a strong vibration, the reliability can be improved. It will be appreciated that highly sensitive shorts are possible.

In the electric connector exemplified here,
For example, it is suitable for use in connecting a winding of an electric motor to a plug. The winding wire is connected to the connection region 21 of the electrical connector by, for example, soldering, and a plug is inserted into the insertion region 20 of the contact 2. It can be seen that this electrical connector is easy and inexpensive to manufacture because both contacts 2 and short-circuit contacts 4 can be driven in the same location.

First, the short-circuit contact can be easily press-fitted into the slot of the insulating housing of the electrical connector.
That is, since the short-circuit contact has at least one pushing shoulder, it can be driven and fixed to the insulating housing between the contacts to be short-circuited by using a suitable pushing tool.

Next, the short-circuit contact can be attached (or fixed) without damaging the fixed or fixed contact to the insulating housing, and the short-circuit contact is, for example, an expensive gold-plated contact. Can also be used for short-circuiting. The reason is that the short-circuit region of the contact is elastically contacted by, for example, bending the short-circuit region of the short-circuit contact into an annular shape.

Finally, the short-circuit contacts are not visible from outside the insulating housing. That is, since the short-circuit contact is disposed in the mounting side of the wall of the insulating housing, it is preferable in appearance.
