Abstract

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a board fixing type connector capable of strongly fixing to a board, reducing the number of components, and reducing cost. SOLUTION: Plural contacts 80, 80' are extended from a peak wall 10 of a housing 2, and tine parts 82, 82' of the contacts are soldered to a substrate. The contacts 80 of the contact row are extended along a side wall 26 from the peak wall 10, contacts 80' at both ends proceed along the peak wall 10 so as to almost perpendicularly cross to the contacts 80 and extend along an end wall 14. Thereby, the housing is strongly fixed to the substrate against the outside force.

2. Description of the Related Art As a board mounting type connector, for example, a connector described in Japanese Utility Model Laid-Open No. 1-113981 is known. This connector is a so-called bottom entry type connector which is attached to the edge of the board and has a fitting portion facing the board. The contact pin extends from the fitting part to the board side through the upper part of the housing of the connector.
It is shaped like a letter. Therefore, the mounting portion (the tine portion) of the row of contact pins to the substrate is arranged on one side of the housing. Therefore, when the housing is attached to the board, its fixation is not strong, and it may tilt when receiving external force.
There is a possibility that the connection between the connectors may be hindered or the solder in the tines may be cracked to reduce the reliability of the connection.

To solve this problem, there is a housing provided with a reinforcing means for mounting. For example, Japanese Utility Model Laid-Open No. 1222271 discloses such a connector, which is shown in FIG. On one side of the housing 102 of the connector 100, the tine portion 106 of the electrical contact 104 has a through hole (through hole) 1 of the substrate 108.
It is inserted through the wire 10 and fixed by the solder 112.
Further, on a wall adjacent to one side of the housing 102, a pin 114 for fixing the substrate extends toward the substrate 108 and is similarly fixed to the through hole 110 with a solder 112.
This reinforces the mounting of the housing. However, the pin 114 is required as a separate component, which causes problems such as an increase in cost and an increase in the number of assembling steps.

Referring first to FIG. 1, 2 and 80,8
Reference numeral 0'indicates an insulative housing having a substantially rectangular outer shape and an electric contact (hereinafter, simply referred to as a contact). The fitting surface 6 of the housing 2 is located on the lower side in the drawing. A recess 8 for receiving a mating connector (not shown) is formed inward from the fitting surface 6, that is, in the upper part of the drawing, as shown by a broken line. A plurality of contacts 80, 80 'extend from the top wall 10 of the housing 2 and are bent toward a substrate 150 (see FIG. 5) such as a printed board to form tine portions 82, 82'. The row of contacts 80 at the center is folded to the side of the paper where
The contacts 80 ′ on both ends extend outward along the top wall 10 in a direction orthogonal to the contacts 80, and further extend along the end wall 14.

Next, FIG. 3 shows the connector 1 shown in FIG.
The bottom view seen from II is shown. Reference numerals 84 and 84 'in the figure respectively indicate connection portions of the contacts 80 and 80'. Connection parts 84, 8
The reference numeral 4'projects into the concave portion 8 and contacts a counterpart contact (not shown). Protrusions 32a and 32b are formed on the side wall 11, and grooves 34a are formed inside the protrusions 32a and 32b.
34b are formed. When mating with the mating housing, a ridge (not shown) formed in the mating housing is inserted and guided along the grooves 34a and 34b. As a result, the connectors are smoothly fitted to each other.
Further, since the grooves 34a and 34b are formed only on one side, it is possible to prevent erroneous fitting.

FIG. 5 shows a plan view of the substrate 150 to which the connector 1 is attached. The board 150 is formed with a notch 152 and through holes 154 and 154 'around which the tines 82 and 82' are inserted and soldered, respectively. The notch 152 is formed corresponding to the opening 9 of the fitting surface 6 of the housing 2 shown by an imaginary line. The mating housing passes through the notch 152 and is inserted into the recess 8. Since the tines 82 ′, 82 ′ of the housing 2 are inserted and fixed in the through holes 154 ′, 154 ′, the housing 2 can be held extremely stably against an external force in the direction of arrow F in the figure. it can. Also housing 2
Since they are arranged on both sides of the housing 2, they have a strong resistance against the external force in the longitudinal direction of the housing 2. Thus, the connector 1 is particularly suitable for mounting on the edge of the substrate 150.

The preferred embodiment of the present invention has been described above in detail, but the present invention is not limited to this embodiment, and various modifications and changes can be considered depending on the application. For example, the contacts 80, 80 'may be made of a wire material having a circular cross section. Further, the contact 80 ′ may be formed by extending or shortening the shape of the extension 81 ′ along the top wall 10 as required. Each contact 80 is provided on the side wall 26 of the housing 2.
A protruding wall (not shown) may be provided between the contacts 80 to prevent the contacts 80 from deforming when an external force is applied thereto, and to prevent the contacts 80 from coming into contact with each other to cause a short circuit.

The connector of the present invention extends along one side wall of the housing so that the contacts at both ends of the plurality of contacts mounted on the board are extended to the side of the end wall orthogonal to the side wall. Play. That is, since it is firmly attached to the substrate, it is possible to prevent the occurrence of twisting or solder cracks at the tines when the connectors are fitted to each other. Since the contact itself is used to reinforce the attachment of the connector, the number of parts, the number of assembling steps, the cost, etc. can be reduced.
