PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a washing size comprising an α-olefin-modified polyvinyl alcohol, to be used for sizing after washing textile products, and capable of giving textile products high in size pickup, free from discoloration or staining during their ironing and also good in touch feeling. SOLUTION: This washing size comprises a modified polyvinyl alcohol, containing 1-24 (pref. 2-9)mol% of α-olefin unit which is prepared by alkali saponification of a copolymer from vinyl acetate and a <=4 deg.C α-olefin such as ethylene. The modified polyvinyl alcohol may contain 0.1-10mol% of cationic group. An aqueous solution of the modified polyvinyl alcohol is fed into the water tank of a domestic washer followed by thoroughly agitation, and a textile product such as a cotton sheet is immersed in the resultant solution, dehydrated, and then air-dried and ironed, thus accomplishing size finishing of the textile product.

Comparative Example 2 Commercially available unmodified PVA (Kuraray Poval PVA-210)

した布の張りを,対照糊付け布(でんぷん糊)と比較し
て触感テストを行った。10人が試験を行い,下記の評
価点の合計点で糊剤の性能を評価した。 +2 : 張りがある +1 : やや張りがある 0 : 対照と同じ −1 : やや張りがない −2 : 張りがない (2)目詰まり試験 市販噴霧器を用いて,温度20℃,湿度65%RH環境
下で10回/日噴霧を1ヶ月行い,目詰まりの有無を調
べた。 (3)アイロンへの付着性 上記(1)の方法で糊付けした綿シーツを,170℃で
アイロンがけした時のアイロンへのカスの付着状況を観
察した。 (4)熱着色性 上記(1)の方法で糊付けした綿シーツを,170℃×
10分間の熱処理をした後,その着色度を元の生地(糊
付けなし)と比較して観察した。また,ポリエステル−
綿混紡布(ポリエステル/綿=65/35;ワイシャツ
用生地)についても同様の方法で糊付け−仕上げを行
い、評価を行った。
