An image pickup means for converting a subject image into an image signal, a recording / reproducing means for recording / reproducing an image signal via a recording medium, and a first operating means for designating an operation mode to a camera mode or a video mode. A second operation means for designating the functions of the imaging means and the recording / reproducing means in each operation mode; a display means for displaying the functions of the imaging means and the recording / reproducing means in each operation mode; and the control means. The operation mode designated by the operation input from the first operation means is set, and the designation functions of various functions of the image pickup means and the recording / reproducing means effective in the operation mode are assigned to the second operation means. Display control is performed to cause the display means to display each designated function assigned to the second operation means, and designated by the operation input of the second operation means.
