Description of the Related Art Generally, a handrail for a man conveyer has a strength member such as cotton canvas or steel cord and a surface material such as chlorosulfonated polyethylene as disclosed in JP-A-55-56977. Since the surface material of chlorosulfonated polyethylene is expensive, it is possible to obtain an aesthetic appearance excellent in colorability.

The handrail 1 of the man conveyer is arranged in an endless manner while being guided by a mold roller 2 and driven by a driving roller 3. Alternatively, it is configured to be driven by the sandwiching pressure between the rollers. This handrail 1 gradually loses its aesthetic appearance with the operation of the man conveyor, and one of the deteriorations in the glossiness is that the user's sweat and hand dust, dust, gum, and tobacco are pressed against each other. This is due to the adhesion of solvent during cleaning, and these may be transferred to the mold roller 2 and retransferred to the handrail 1. Further, in the method in which the handrail 1 is driven by the nip pressure of the rollers, the gloss level is also reduced due to the frictional force during the nip pressure. Further, the original color of the handrail 1 may be faded due to long-term use.

Since the recovery cannot be expected for stains that have reached a relatively deep depth chemically and physically or have been discolored, as described in JP-A-61-26838, the surface of the handrail 1 cannot be recovered. A urethane film film is formed or a two-layer structure of polyolefin-based paint as described in JP-A-3-79588 is used to improve the adhesion between the handrail surface and the paint, or the handrail surface is Method of polishing and then applying urethane-based paint, acrylic-styrene copolymer-based paint or modified silicone paint and curing to restore gloss It has been proposed.

(2) Coating time of coating, (3) Drying and curing time of coating, total of which, surface polishing of handrail is particularly effective for strong stains and discoloration. Although the time can be shortened by roughening the polishing particles and increasing the polishing rate, the handrail surface after polishing has severe irregularities, and it is necessary to cover these irregularities and obtain a film thickness with sufficient gloss. It is necessary to repeat coating 2-3 times or more. Further, with respect to the coating of the coating material, it takes a drying and curing time for each coating, so that the work time becomes long if the coating is repeated. Therefore, in the conventional polishing work, it is necessary to carry out the polishing with a proper roughness and the number of times of overcoating, which makes the working time very long and at the same time the working cost expensive. Further, since the drying and curing time is affected by the outside temperature, it is impossible to work in a low temperature area, for example, Hokkaido in winter.

The work must be completed within a limited time while the man conveyor is stopped. However, due to the above-mentioned reasons, it is barely possible to complete the polishing work for several machines a day, and it takes a great deal of manpower to complete the polishing work within a limited time. In addition, this is a cause of high work cost.

る。The method of polishing a handrail for a passenger conveyor according to the present invention uses a UV-curable coating as described above and, in consideration of the adhesion of the coating film at the stage of polishing the handrail surface, is rougher than usual. Since the polishing process is included, the drying and curing times are not significantly affected by the ambient temperature,
Not only is it possible to work regardless of the region and season, but it is also possible to significantly reduce the work time while preventing the occurrence of peeling. In particular, the UV curable paint has a very high viscosity.
It is possible to obtain a film thickness having a sufficient glossiness by coating once.

FIG. 1 is a flow chart showing a method of polishing a handrail for a passenger conveyor according to an embodiment of the present invention. First, step S1 is a polishing process of the surface of the handrail as a pretreatment. This is carried out by attaching abrasive paper to an apparatus such as an optical sander or a belt sander as shown in Fig. 3, and in this polishing process, fading and strong dirt on the surface of the handrail are removed, and details are given. As will be described later, when the coating film is finally formed on the surface of the handrail after polishing, the surface is polished to a roughness that maintains the adhesiveness with the coating film. Next, the step performed in step S2 is to remove the shavings adhering to the surface of the handrail. This may be wiped off well with a brush, waste cloth or the like, or may be wiped off with alcohol or the like. Subsequently, in step S3, a step of applying the ultraviolet curable coating material to the surface of the handrail is performed. The coating method is performed by using a spray, a brush or the like, but in the case of an ultraviolet curable coating, one of its characteristics is that it can be used as a solventless type, so it does not matter whether or not it is diluted with a solvent. After the application of the UV-curable coating material, the coating is left for several minutes for the purpose of leveling and volatilization of the solvent in the case of using a solvent, and then, in step S4, an ultraviolet light irradiation step is performed for curing the UV-curable coating material. In step S4 of the step of irradiating the ultraviolet light, any ultraviolet irradiating device having a function of generating ultraviolet light may be used. It is convenient because it can be moved over and irradiated with ultraviolet rays. The above-mentioned work for the existing man conveyor can be performed without removing the handrail from the man conveyor, but since the work for the entire circumference of the handrail cannot be done at one time, the work from step S1 to step S4 is completed. Then, in step S5, the man conveyor is activated to expose the unworked portion of the handrail, and the work of steps S1 to S4 is repeated again to polish the entire circumference of the handrail.

Was never generated. Further, the time required for the series of steps from step S1 to step S5 is about 2 hours, which is about 1/4 of the polishing time when the urethane-based paint which is not UV-curable is used.

The surface roughness is removed by polishing with a relatively fine abrasive paper of about # 800 according to No. 3. It is possible to apply paint without removing this surface roughness, but in that case,
In order to obtain a sufficient gloss, the paint needs to be applied repeatedly 2-3 times or more. This is because the film thickness required to cover the surface roughness cannot be obtained by one application. However, in this embodiment, as described above, the UV-curable coating material is used, and the fact that this UV-curable coating material has a very high viscosity makes it possible to use a relatively rough JIS R6253.
# 240 to # 600 by # 240 to # 40
The final polishing step is polishing with 0 polishing paper. With such a polished surface, it is possible to obtain a film thickness having a sufficient glossiness by a single application. Furthermore, application to rubber with severe bending, which is peculiar to a handrail, has a problem of adhesion of the coating film to the surface of the handrail. Sufficient adhesion is obtained for coating on the ridge surface.

By the viscosity of the UV-curable coating, a handrail having a required thickness and excellent adhesion and gloss can be obtained without repeated coating. Further, since the ultraviolet curable coating material is used, the coating material is cured by irradiation of ultraviolet light, and the work can be completed in a short time without being restricted by the outside air temperature.
