Abstract

PURPOSE: To sufficiently secure an opening area for inflating an air bag by largely rotating a covered plate part 9 in time of a car-crash accident. CONSTITUTION: A mounting plate part 14 of a cover 8 is connected to a housing 10 of an air bag module 5 by means of two rivets 15 and 15. This mounting plate part 14 and an end edge of a covered plate part 9 are joined together by a connecting plate part 12. Both symmetrical end edges of this connecting plate part 12 and a side wall 11 are connected by two thin wall parts 13 and 13. At the time of inflation of an air bag, these thin wall parts 13 and 13 are ruptured, thereby allowing any deformation in the connecting plate part 12, and thus an opening area is thus secured.

2. Description of the Related Art In a collision accident, a secondary collision occurs in which a driver's body collides with a steering wheel following a primary collision in which an automobile collides with another automobile. An airbag device is widely known as an auxiliary safety device for preventing the driver's body from violently colliding with the steering wheel and being seriously injured in the case of the secondary collision. For example, when the airbag device is installed in the driver's seat of an automobile, the airbag module is mounted on the surface of the steering wheel facing the driver at the center.

However, in the case of the air bag module cover constructed and used as described above, depending on the shape of the cover, an opening portion for leading out the air bag 16 in the event of a collision accident may be formed. There is a possibility that the area cannot be secured sufficiently. That is, as shown in FIGS.
This is preferable when the cover plate portion 2 of the cover 1 is relatively flat, but in the case of the cover 8 having a large surface shape curvature as shown in FIGS. Even if the thin portion 7 (see FIGS. 28 to 29) is provided on the plate portion 9, even if the thin portion 7 is torn, the cover plate portion 9 forming the cover 8 becomes difficult to open.

In the event of a collision accident, if the cover plate 9 is difficult to open and the area of the opening cannot be secured sufficiently, the airbag 16 may not fully inflate or the inflated position may deviate from a predetermined position. The possibility arises. Therefore, conventionally, the hinge portion serving as a fulcrum at the time of opening is displaced from the curved surface portion having the relatively small radius of curvature described above, and the hinge portion shown in FIG.
29, the hinge portion is provided near the peripheral edge of the cover 1 and near the mounting portion 4.

However, as shown in FIGS. 28 to 29, when the above-mentioned hinge portion is provided in a portion near the peripheral portion of the cover 1 near the mounting portion 4, when the area of the opening is sufficiently secured, the cover 1 is It has to be made considerably larger, and it becomes impractical depending on the type of vehicle to be installed. Further, it is inevitable that the molding of the cover 1 becomes complicated and the manufacturing cost of the cover 1 increases.

Further, as described in Japanese Patent Laid-Open No. 3-50053, an opening area can be secured by mounting a cover on the driver side so that the cover can be displaced, and the actual opening number is 62-141564.
As described in the publication, it has been proposed to secure an opening area by forming a flexible portion that assists bending deformation in the opening direction in a part of the cover plate portion. However, these conventionally proposed structures have a problem that the opening area for taking out the airbag cannot be made sufficiently large, or the applicable structure is limited.
For this reason, conventionally, a structure has been implemented in which the cover plate portion is not torn at its central portion and instead the entire cover plate portion is retracted from the front surface of the airbag module. There is a possibility that the airbag is not sufficiently evacuated and the airbag is insufficiently inflated. The airbag module cover of the present invention was invented in view of such circumstances.

First, in the case of the fifth embodiment shown in FIG. 20, the protrusion 20 is formed at the end edge portion of the thin portion 13 where tearing starts when the airbag is inflated. The thin wall portion 13 is prevented from being inadvertently torn during the assembly work of the airbag device. On the other hand, in the case of the sixth embodiment shown in FIG. 21, a V-shaped notch 23 is formed at the edge of the thin portion 13 where tearing starts when the airbag is inflated. Thus, when the airbag starts to inflate, the thin portion 13 is torn smoothly. Further, in the case of the seventh embodiment shown in FIGS. 22 to 23, by forming the thin-walled portion 13 in a V-shaped cross-section, the thin-walled portion 13 is easily torn at the start of inflation of the airbag. are doing.
