PURPOSE:To contrive the improvement of drain pump performance by a method wherein the discharge opening of a casing is so designed as to increase the discharging capacity of the drain pump. CONSTITUTION:In a drain pump having a blade 5 housed in a casing 1 consisting of a peripheral side wall 2 and a top lid 3 and made into the shape of an inverted truncated cone, with its axis set vertically and in a rotary manner, and having a suction opening 6 formed in the lower surface of the peripheral side wall 2 of the casing and a discharge opening 7 formed in the upper part thereof, the discharge opening 7 in the upper part of the peripheral side wall 2 has the axis of its opening directed in an oblique and upward direction and is eccentrically disposed on a tangent to the rotating direction of the blade 5.
