(図において下端)に軸方向他端(図において上端)側
へ向けて受圧面(14)を設定した環状のシールリップ
(13)を設け、取付部(11)の端面(12)から受圧面
(14)にかけて大きな環状の凹み(15)を設けたもので
あって、その形状構成から次の問題点が指摘される。

を解消すべく案出されたものであって、この目的を達成
するため、円筒状の取付部の軸方向一端に同一端側へ向
けて受圧面を設定した環状のシールリップを設け、前記
取付部の端面から前記受圧面へかけてを面一な平坦面に
成形し、前記シールリップの背面側にバックアップリン
グを備えたオイルシールであって、前記バックアップリ
ングに、円筒状の摺動部と並んで、前記摺動部の軸方向
長さを一定に保つテーパ部が設けられていることにし
た。

シール壁寸法を縮小する。また凹みがなく凹み底部が破
損する虞れがないため躊躇することなくシール壁寸法を
縮小することができる。また本考案のオイルシールにお
いては、円筒状の取付部の軸方向一端に同一端側へ向け
て受圧面を設定した環状のシールリップが設けられてい
るため、取付部のシール力を従来と同じに保とうとして
取付部の軸方向長さを従来と同じに設定すると、シール
リップの背面側に軸方向に比較的長い空間が設けられて
この空間に軸方向長さが従来より長いバックアップリン
グが装着されることになる。そしてこのバックアップリ
ングがその軸方向全長に亙ってシャフト等の相手部材と
摺動するとすると、軸方向長さが従来より長いことに伴
って摺動面積が従来より拡大されているために、摺動抵
抗が従来より増大してしまう。これに対して、本考案の
オイルシールにおいては上記構成に加えて、バックアッ
プリングに円筒状の摺動部と並んでこの摺動部の軸方向
長さを一定に保つテーパ部に設けらているために、バッ
クアップリングの軸方向長さが従来より長くても摺動部
の軸方向長さおよび摺動面積を従来と略同じに保つこと
が可能であり、これにより取付部のシール力を充分に確
保した上で、バックアップリングの摺動抵抗が増大する
のを防止することが可能となる。
