Conventionally, for example, in a CD player or the like, the objective lens of the optical pickup is brought close to the optical disk before performing the reproducing operation, and when the focus point is reached, the focus servo circuit is operated to hold the objective lens at this focus point. A search circuit is used.

When the focus point cannot be found by such a focus search circuit, the focus search operation is performed again. However, if the focus point is not found even after repeating the focus search operation four times, for example, it is determined that the focus point is not found and such a display is performed.

[Problems to be solved by the invention] However, if the disc is scratched, the focus point may not be found no matter how many times such focus search operation is repeated, which is in vain. The present invention has been made with the object of remedying such drawbacks.

Therefore, even if the optical disc has a flaw, the next focus search operation is performed at another location without a flaw, so that the focus point can be found with high probability.

In the figure, the optical information from the compact disc 1 rotated by the motor 7 is detected by the pickup 2,
It is added to the detection signal processing unit 3. The detection signal processing unit 3 applies the focus error signal to the focus servo circuit 6 and the EFM signal to the digital signal processing unit 4. The digital data of the music signal in the digital signal processing unit 4 is demodulated and led to the output terminal 5, and the subcode information is demodulated and added to the microcomputer 8. The focus servo circuit 6 and the focus search circuit 9 control the focus coil that drives the objective lens of the pickup 2. The microcomputer 8 controls the digital signal processing unit 4, the focus servo circuit 6, the motor 7 and the focus search circuit 9.

In the figure, when the optical disc 1 is inserted into the CD player and a reproducing operation is performed, a well-known focus search step S 1 is first performed. That is, the microcomputer 8 causes the focus search circuit 9 to bring the objective lens of the pickup 2 closer to the optical disc 1 in step S 1 . In step S 2 , it is determined whether or not the focus point is reached. If it is detected that reaches the focus point by operating the focus servo circuit 6 in step S 6, to maintain the position of the objective lens in the focus point. If the focus point could not be detected in step S 2, the process proceeds to step S 3, the number of transitions to the step S 3 is less than 4 times, the next step
Proceeds to S 5, is about half turn of the optical disk 1 by controlling the motor 7. After that, the process proceeds to step S 1 again, the focus search circuit 9 is operated again, and the above steps are repeated. When the transition to step S 3 reaches four times the process proceeds to step S 4, it is displayed on the display circuit (not shown) that focus can not be obtained.

As described above, according to the present invention, since the focus search operation is performed by changing the detection position of the optical disk, the focus search can be surely performed even if the optical disk has some scratches.
