FIG. 3 is a perspective view showing the power transmission path of the document feed roller (6), and the rotation of the pulse motor (7) is transmitted to the timing pulley via the timing belt (8). The timing pulley (9) has a built-in one-way clutch (23) as shown in the sectional view of FIG. There is a wedge-shaped gap (27) between the inner ring (25) fixed to the shaft (24) and the outer ring (26) provided on the outer periphery of the inner ring (25), and there are a plurality of rollers (28) having different outer diameters. ) Is fitted, and the roller (28) is pressed by the spring (29) through the roller retainer (30) with a force in the direction from the one having the larger outer diameter to the one having the smaller outer diameter. When the outer ring (26) rotates in the direction of arrow A, the roller (28) is tightened between the outer ring (26) and the inner ring (25), so that the rotation of the outer ring (26) is transmitted to the inner ring (25). Axis (2
4) also rotates in the direction of arrow A. On the contrary, when the shaft (24) rotates in the direction of arrow A, the gap (27) loosens with respect to the roller (28), so that the shaft (24) is fixed even if the outer ring (26) is fixed.
Can rotate freely in the direction of arrow A.
The shaft (24) is coaxially fixed to the document feed roller (6), and the outer ring (25) is coaxially fixed to the timing pulley (9).
Therefore, the document feeding roller (6) can freely rotate in the direction of arrow A. Further, the document feeding roller (6) on the side opposite to the side on which the timing pulley (9) is provided in FIG.
A disk-shaped rotary encoder (31) having radial slits at equal intervals is fixedly provided coaxially with the document feeding roller (6) at the end of the, and passes through the slit from a light source (not shown). The amount of rotation of the document feed roller (6) can be detected by detecting the incoming light with a photoelectric conversion element (not shown).

When reading a sheet-like document, as in the conventional example shown in FIG. 6, as shown in FIG. 1, the sheet-like document (15) placed on the document table (17) is fed by an automatic paper feed roller ( 13a) and (13b) sequentially feed the sheets one by one toward the reading section (19), and the original feed roller (6).
It is held by the pressure roller (11) and travels. The timing pulley (9) shown in FIG. 3 has the one-way clutch (23) shown in FIG. 4 built-in, but the arrow transmitted from the pulse motor (7) to the timing pulley (9) via the timing belt (8). The rotation in the A direction is transmitted to the original document feeding roller (6) without idling and the original document feeding roller (6) rotates in the direction of arrow A. On the other hand, the case of reading an original having a thickness such as a book will be described with reference to a sectional view of the facsimile machine in FIG. Door (14)
With the pressure rollers (11) and (12) and the automatic paper feed upper roller (13a) attached, open 180 degrees to the left around the lower left part. The document (21) such as a book is opened downward and placed on the guide plate (22), and is gently moved in the direction of arrow C while being pressed against the document feed roller (6) by hand. At this time,
The document feed roller (6) is restrained by the pulse motor (7) stopped in the document feed direction A by the one-way clutch (23) shown in FIG. 4 built in the timing pulley (9) of FIG. It can rotate freely without being damaged. Also,
The rotary encoder (31) directly connected coaxially with the document feed roller (6) also rotates, and a signal synchronized with the rotation of the document feed roller (6) is obtained, that is, the rotation amount of the document feed roller (6), that is, the document. Since the moving amount of (21) can be detected, the original (21) is read by the photoelectric conversion element (5) in synchronization with the moving amount of the original (21) as in the case of the sheet-like original of FIG. be able to. The read part of the document (21) is supported by the open door (14).

First, when the original is a sheet, the timing signal generation circuit (35) generates a reading start signal and a motor drive signal at predetermined timings, and the reading start signal is sent to the reading circuit (36), whereby photoelectric conversion is performed. The signal input from the element (5) is output as image data, and the motor drive signal is sent to the motor drive circuit (37), which supplies electric power to the step motor (7) to drive it. Next, if the original is thick like a book, the photoelectric conversion element (34) of the encoder outputs a signal corresponding to the amount of movement of the original.
The encoder output signal sent from the encoder through the encoder input circuit (33) is converted into the reading start signal by the timing signal generation circuit (35) and sent to the reading circuit (36), which inputs from the photoelectric conversion element (5). The output signal is output as image data.

As described above, according to the present invention, when reading an original having a thickness such as a book, the developing means can be opened and the original can be moved by hand while pressing the original against the original feeding roller, and the original can be read. The completed part is supported by the pressing roller provided in the moving means, so that the manuscript can be moved stably, and the reading part is fixed, so the reading part is highly reliable and stable. Accurate reading is possible. Further, since the amount of movement of the original is detected by the encoder and the original is read in synchronization with this, it is not necessary to provide power for moving the illumination light source or the reflection mirror and its transmission mechanism, Since a space for the above movement is not necessary and a glass plate is also unnecessary, the device is capable of reading both a sheet-like original and a thick original such as a book, which is small and inexpensive. There is an effect obtained the location.
