Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a rainwater intrusion preventing structure for automatically opening and closing a through-hole at a low cost, by installing a ring shaped water-swelled type sealing member which possesses the original shape return performance, in the through-hole formed on a cover for an underground conduit. CONSTITUTION:A plurality of gas vent holes 3 are formed on a manhole cover 1. On the peripheral surface 9 of the gas vent hole 3, an annular fitting groove 11 is formed previously. A water-swelled type rubber ring (sealing member) 5 is fitted in the gas vent hole 3. In the ordinary case, the gas vent hole 3 is put into an opened state by a through-hole 13 on the water-sealed ring 5. In case of rainfall, the water-swelled ring 5 is expanded through the contact with rain water. At the same time, the through-hole 13 is closed by utilizing the regulation for the peripheral surface of the gas vent hole 3. Accordingly, the intrusion of the rain water into the manhole 1 is prevented by putting the gas vent hole into a closed state. When rain stops, the water-swelled ring 5 is returned to shape an original.
