磁気信号を読み取るカードリーダーは、必ずしもクリー
ンな環境に設置されているとは限らず、設置場所の塵や
埃で絶えず汚れている。特にカード表面の磁気媒体に接
触し、磁気信号を検出する磁気ヘッドにおいては、磁気
ヘッド表面の汚れによる信号の誤検出がカードリーダー
のトラブルの主な要因となっており、いかに磁気ヘッド
の表面をクリーンに保持するかが重要な課題となってい

の断面図である。従来のクリーニングカードには、図３
（ａ）に示すように、カード基材１にＡｌ2Ｏ3やＳｉＯ
2等の粉末状の研磨材３ａを含む乾式のクリーニングカ
ードと、図３（ｂ）に示すように、カード基材１に不織
布５を取付け、不織布５にアルコールなどの溶剤をふく
ませて使用する湿式のクリーニングカードがある。これ
らのクリーニングカードには次のような欠点がある。前
者の乾式においては、磁気ヘッドをクリーニングした時
に、研磨した汚れや研磨材をカードリーダー内に残すこ
とになり、これがトラブルの原因となる場合がある。後
者の湿式においては、磁気ヘッド表面に固着した汚れに
対しクリーニング能力が弱く、又、洗浄液が必要である
ことからクリーニング作業が煩雑であるといった欠点が
