(Prior Art) In recent years, new demands for television systems, such as so-called EDTV and HDTV, have been proposed in response to increasing demands for high-quality and high-resolution reproduced images. As is well known, in order to obtain a reproduced image with high image quality and high resolution, an imaging device capable of generating a video signal capable of reproducing the reproduced image with high image quality and high resolution is required. Although it is required, in an image pickup apparatus in which an image pickup tube is used as an image pickup element, there is a limit to the miniaturization of the electron beam diameter in the image pickup tube, so that it is not possible to expect a higher resolution due to the smaller electron beam diameter. In addition, since the target capacity of the image pickup tube increases corresponding to the target area, it is not possible to realize high resolution by increasing the target area. For example, in the case of a moving image capturing device, the image signal frequency band becomes several tens of MHz to several hundreds MHz or more as the resolution increases, which causes a problem in terms of S / N. It is difficult for the device to generate a video signal capable of reproducing a high-quality / high-resolution reproduced image.

As described above, the conventional image pickup apparatus cannot generate a video signal capable of reproducing a high-quality / high-resolution reproduced image satisfactorily due to the presence of the image pickup element indispensable for its configuration. In order to solve the above-mentioned point, the applicant company first obtained a high-resolution optical image with an imaging device using a light-to-light conversion element, and used the light-to-charge conversion element to obtain the optical image. We proposed an imaging method and a recording method for recording a high-resolution charge image on a recording medium having a charge storage layer (or charge holding layer).

By the way, a high-resolution optical image is obtained by the image pickup device using the light-to-light conversion element, and the optical image is transferred to the recording medium having the charge storage layer by using the light-to-charge conversion element. When the imaging system and the recording system by the applicant company of the present invention are recorded, it is necessary to read the charge image recorded on the recording medium as an electric signal. When optically reading is performed, for example, a transparent electrode and a light modulation material layer member {a light modulation material layer member (for example, a light modulation material layer member exhibiting characteristics capable of changing the state of light depending on an applied voltage) A material layer for light modulation such as a lithium niobate single crystal having an electro-optical effect, bismuth silicate oxide, or a layer of a nematic liquid crystal exhibiting an electric field scattering effect may be used)} Detection head constructed by laminating a dielectric mirror has been used.

(Problems to be Solved by the Invention) In the above-described conventional device, a transparent electrode and a light modulation material layer member as a detection head {a light modulation material layer exhibiting characteristics capable of changing a light state depending on an applied voltage. A member (for example,
(Lithium niobate single crystal having an electro-optic effect, or bismuth silicate oxide, a material layer for light modulation such as a layer of a nematic liquid crystal exhibiting an electric field scattering effect may be used)} and a dielectric mirror are laminated. However, it is not easy to fabricate the above-mentioned dielectric mirror because it has a multi-layered structure, and the dielectric mirror transmits part of the light incident on it. Therefore, since the reflectance does not reach 100%, it is difficult to construct a highly sensitive detection head, and improvement measures for them have been required.

However, since the electric field due to the charge image held in the charge holding layer IL of the recording member D is applied to the light modulation material layer member PML in the detection head RA, the birefringence in the detection head RA is as described above. The laser light flux incident on the light modulation material layer member PML made of a material is in a state of normal light and abnormal light generated at the light modulation material layer member PML made of a birefringent material according to the electric field generated in the charge image ( In the case of this example, the angle of the plane of polarization changes.

The information signal recording / reproducing apparatus according to the present invention as described above uses the detection head RA constituted by laminating the transparent electrode Et and the light modulation material layer member PML, and also uses the detection image RA as the recording member D. A charge holding layer IL made of a material having a holding function and capable of transmitting read light used for reading a held charge image is formed on the electrode CL forming a light reflecting surface on the substrate BL. Since the laser beam incident on the detection head RA passes through the light modulation material layer member PML and the charge holding layer IL of the recording member D as described above, The reflected light is reflected 100% by the electrode CL forming the light reflecting surface, and the reflected light is again stored in the charge holding layer IL of the recording member D.
Since the light passes through the light modulation material layer member PML in the detection head RA and is emitted from the surface of the transparent electrode Et, the surface potential of the recording member can be detected with high sensitivity.
