Abstract

PURPOSE:To provide a composition to form the liq. crystal oriented film without generating a domain and without the pretilt angle being changed because of the ageing after a liq. crystal is sealed. CONSTITUTION:This composition for a liq. crystal oriented film contains a tetracarboxylic dianhydride having a 7-9C bicyclic alicyclic hydrocarboxylic or the derivative group having <=3 covalent atoms, an aliphatic diamine and a polyamic acid obtained by the reaction of a tetracarboxylic dianhydride other than the former dianhydride, if necessary. A liq. crystal oriented film, etc., are formed from the composition.

The viscosity of this solution was adjusted and coated on a glass substrate on which ITO transparent electrodes were formed so as to form two 640 × 200 dots by a spinner, and heated at 250 ° C. for 30 minutes to remove the solvent and dehydrate and ring-close the polyamic acid. Perform 600Å
The polyimide layer of was formed. The surface of this layer on two glass substrates is rubbed to obtain a liquid crystal holding substrate as a liquid crystal alignment film, which is combined with two polyimide layers facing each other so that the rubbing directions are anti-parallel, and the surroundings. The cell was assembled by sealing with an epoxy sealant EN-1000 (trade name, manufactured by Hitachi Chemical Co., Ltd.), and liquid crystal ZLI-2293 (trade name, manufactured by Merck Ltd.) was enclosed inside the cell.
When the liquid crystal cell was formed and the pretilt angle was measured by the crystal rotation method, the pretilt angle was 5.8 °. In addition, ZLI-2293 of T NI the liquid crystal cell
The pretilt angle was measured after heating at 130 ° C., which is a temperature of (85 ° C.) or higher, for 1 hour, but there was almost no change at 5.6 °. Next, a liquid crystal alignment film is formed by the same method as described above, two polyimide layers are made to face each other so as to form a 240 ° twist, and the periphery is covered with an epoxy sealant E.
Liquid crystal ZLI-2293 (trade name of Merck Co., Ltd.) in which cells are assembled by sealing with N-1000 (trade name of Hitachi Chemical Co., Ltd.) and chiral agent CB-15 (trade name of Merck Co.) is added inside. Was sealed to prepare a liquid crystal display device.
Next, in order to stabilize this liquid crystal display element, it was heated at 130 ° C. for 1 hour as an aging treatment. The liquid crystal display device,
It was possible to drive at 640 × 200 dots, alignment defects such as domains did not occur, and the contrast was good and the display quality was high.

Example 2 14.4 g (0.10 mol) of 1,8-diaminooctane
Was added to 220 g of N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone, and after sufficiently stirring, bicyclo [2,2,1] heptane-2,
24.8 g of 3,5,6-tetracarboxylic dianhydride
(0.10 mol) was added, and the mixture was reacted at 20 ° C. for 6 hours, and a yellow viscous liquid was obtained. The pretilt angle was measured by treating this solution in the same manner as in Example 1 to find that it was 4.1 °. The liquid crystal cell was heated at 130 ° C. for 1 hour, and then the pretilt angle was measured. The pretilt angle was 4.3 °, and there was almost no change in the pretilt angle. Further, using this solution, a liquid crystal display element was produced in the same manner as in Example 1. The liquid crystal display device could be driven at 640 × 200 dots, had no defective alignment such as domains, and had good contrast and high display quality.
