Such a connector has terminals integrally formed with each contact in order to connect the contact to the conductive pad of the circuit board, and it is generally elastically inserted into the through hole or connected to the circuit board by soldering. Target. When such a connector is of the vertical type, that is, when another connector is vertically inserted into the circuit board, the holding strength of the connector is often sufficient with the terminal. However, in the case of a horizontal (horizontal) type connector, or in the case where the terminals are surface mounted (SMT), that is, in the type where the terminals are soldered to the conductive pads on the surface of the circuit board, the mounting strength between the connector housing and the circuit board is Insufficient and some retention leg needs to be added to the housing.

A general holding leg for such a purpose is a pair of elastic legs having steps in mutually opposite directions, or a post having a circular or elliptical cross section divided into two by longitudinal slits, respectively.
A stepped portion is formed in which the diameter of the tip portion is larger than that of the base portion to engage with the circuit board. However, the former elastic leg is limited to a large-sized elastic leg and is apt to rattle in the lateral direction.
Further, since the latter post, that is, the holding leg, has a small size of 1 to 2 mm in diameter, there is a drawback that the holding force is extremely small and the strength is not sufficient when the slit is formed to impart elasticity.

According to the connector housing of the present invention, the connector housing has a pair of holding legs formed on the bottom surface of the housing, that is, at least near both ends of the mounting surface on the circuit board. Each retaining leg has a substantially constant diameter and has a stepped top. Each holding leg further has a groove in the vertical direction, and has a substantially U-shaped cross section. By forming the maximum circumscribed circle at the top of the holding leg, the holding leg is press-fitted into such an opening to hold or fix the connector housing.

FIG. 1 is a front view of a preferred embodiment of a connector housing according to the present invention. The connector housing 10 is a plastic molded product, has a recess 11 on the front surface, and is configured so that one or a plurality of other connectors (not shown) can be inserted and fitted therein. The unevenness of the outer periphery of the recess 11 is
This is for the purpose of guiding (or guiding) another connector to be inserted into this. A large number of openings 12a, 12b for inserting contact pins, which will be described later, are formed through the rear wall of the recess 11 in two rows. The connector to be inserted into the recess 11 is preferably a well-known receptacle type connector of a type called, for example, a CT connector manufactured and sold by the applicant of the present application, but needless to say, is not limited to such a connector. .

The bottom surface 13 of the connector housing 10 is placed and fixed on a plate member 25 which is generally a circuit board. In the illustrated example, a pair of holding legs 14a and 14b are integrally formed at both ends of the housing 10. The holding legs 14a and 14b serve as holding means for soldering the above-mentioned contact pin to the circuit board, and also function as reinforcing means for inserting / withdrawing another connector into / from the contact pin in the recess 11. As will be described later with reference to FIGS. 3 and 4, each of the holding legs 14a, 14b has a substantially U-shaped groove in the longitudinal direction for elastically holding when the holding legs 14a, 14b are inserted into the holding openings of the plate member. It has 15a and 15b and has a substantially U-shaped cross section.

FIG. 2 is a right side view of the connector housing 10 of FIG. However, FIG. 2 is slightly different from FIG. 1 in that it shows terminals 17a, 17b having contact pin portions 16a, 16b press-fitted into the openings 12a, 12b in two rows. The terminals 17a and 17b are inserted into through holes of the circuit board and are connected by soldering, for example. A vertical groove is formed in the rear wall 18 of the housing 10 to separate and align the terminals 17a and 17b that are in contact with each other.

FIG. 3 is an enlarged front view of each holding leg 14, and FIG.
A cross-sectional view is shown at the top of the holding leg 14 along the line 4--4 in the figure. As is apparent from the drawings, the holding leg 14 of the housing 10 of the present invention has a base portion 20 having a substantially uniform diameter and a top portion 21 projecting outwardly therefrom to form a step. A substantially U-shaped or V-shaped vertical groove 15 having a width that sequentially extends in the vertical direction across the base portion 20 and the top portion 21.
Is formed, and the lateral (horizontal) cross section of the top portion 21 is formed in a substantially U shape as shown in FIG. The flutes 15 have a sufficient depth at least near the top 21. As a result, when the holding leg 14 is pressed into the opening of the circuit board as shown by the dotted line 30 in FIG. 4, the U-shaped outward free end 22 is pushed inward and the vertical groove 15 is formed. The opening end (front end) is biased toward the closing direction, and the top end 21 of the holding leg 14 is elastically inserted into the opening 30 of the circuit board without causing a large deformation. The height of the board 20 of the holding leg 14 is preferably selected to be slightly larger than the board thickness of the circuit board on which the connector housing 10 is mounted (for example, about 1.7 mm). The size of the top 21 is determined by the strength of the retaining legs 14 required, and in the preferred embodiment is about 1.3 mm.
As a result, the total length of the holding legs 14 is selected to be about 3 mm. When it is necessary to remove the housing 10 once attached to the circuit board, the housing 10 may be pulled upward while pressing the free ends 22 of the tops 21 of the holding legs 14 toward each other with a finger or the like.

Although the above description is based on a preferred embodiment of the present invention, it should be understood that the present invention should not be limited to such an embodiment and various modifications and changes can be made without departing from the gist thereof. I can do it. For example, it goes without saying that the recess 11 of the housing 10 may be formed on the upper surface of the housing 10 and another connector may be inserted and removed from the upper surface. Further, the contact pins of the connector may be one row or two or more rows, and its terminals may be known compliance (elastic) pins instead of being soldered, and may be directly brought into contact with the through holes of the circuit board. SMT) type may be used. Furthermore,
The contacts (contacts) of such a housing are not pin-shaped but receptacle-shaped, and the connector inserted therein is a circuit board or hybrid having a plurality of contact pads on the edge.
It may be an IC board, a memory module board, or the like, or may be a coaxial connector of the type for press connection. Further, the stepped portion of the holding leg 14 may be formed with a slight taper so as to surely hold a wide range of plate thickness of the plate member.

As will be understood from the above description, according to the connector housing of the present invention, the holding legs integrally formed with the housing are provided at least in the vicinity of both ends of the contact surface with the mounting plate member. Since this holding leg has a vertical groove cut deeply and has a substantially U-shaped cross section, it is elastically and easily fitted and held in the mounting opening, and has sufficient elasticity and holding strength. Have an effect. Further, since the vertical groove formed in the holding leg is formed so as to widen from the base portion to the top portion, the holding leg has sufficient elasticity and sufficient mechanical strength. Therefore, when handling the connector housing, the holding legs are not damaged.
