Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a magnetic disk device having high reliability by connecting an opening to the outside of a breathing pipe of a closed vessel and an opening for the inside of that with a hollow pipe and the like, and suppressing quantity of steam flowing into the closed vessel. CONSTITUTION:A first opening is provided on the outside face of a cover 11, a second opening leading into a base 12 is provided inside the cover 11 at a position being apart from the first opening, a pipe section connecting the first opening and the second opening through the inside of the cover 11 is provided, and a breathing pipe 13 is formed. Thus, this device is constituted so that the outside and the inside of the vessel are made to communicate with each other through the pipe part arranged through inside of the cover 11. Thereby, since a length of the breathing pipe can be made to be a desired length, pressure loss of the breathing pipe is made to bea prescribed value and quantity of steam flowing into the closing vessel can be suppressed. Therefore, it can bee prevented that a magnetic disk and a magnetic head are stuck to each other by steam and they are damaged.

As shown in FIG. 6, a conventional magnetic disk device in which a magnetic disk and a magnetic head are housed in a hermetically sealed container has a magnetic disk 1 for storing information, a spindle motor 2 for rotating the magnetic disk 1, and a rotation. The magnetic head 3 for writing or reading information to or from the magnetic disk 1, the carriage 4 for carrying the magnetic head 3 to move it to a designated position on the magnetic disk 1, and the rotational movement of the carriage 4 are driven. The magnetic disk 1 and the magnetic head 3 are housed in a base 6, and a cover 7 is covered on the base 6 for sealing.

The magnetic disk drive thus constructed is
During operation, the temperature rises, the pressure inside the sealed container rises, and the external atmospheric pressure changes, which causes a pressure difference between the inside and outside of the sealed container. For this reason, the pressure difference is absorbed by providing the cover 7 with the breathing tube 8 and circulating the breathing tube 8 inside and outside the sealed container.

The amount of water vapor flowing into the sealed container is affected by the pressure loss in the breathing tube, which depends on the cross-sectional area and length of the breathing tube. Therefore, by changing the cross-sectional area and length of the breathing tube, the amount of water vapor flowing into the sealed container through the breathing tube can be adjusted.

However, the breathing tube of the conventional magnetic disk device as described above is simply covered (or base).
Since the hole is only linearly penetrated through the tube, its length is determined by the thickness of the cover (or base), and it is difficult to form a breathing tube having sufficient pressure loss. Therefore, when the humidity in the hermetically sealed container is affected by the humidity of the outside air and the magnetic disk and the magnetic head come into contact with each other, water vapor is adsorbed on the magnetic disk and the magnetic head may be damaged. As described above, in the magnetic disk drive of the present invention, the opening of the breathing tube provided in the hermetically sealed container with respect to the outside and the opening with respect to the inside thereof are separated from each other, and a space between them is provided. By connecting a hollow tube provided parallel to the surface of the cover, or a groove with a sealant, or a pipe, the length of the breathing tube can be set to a desired length, so that the pressure loss of the breathing tube can be set to a predetermined value. As a value of, there is an effect that it is possible to suppress the amount of water vapor flowing into the sealed container, and therefore, it is possible to prevent the magnetic disk and the magnetic head from being adsorbed by the water vapor and damaging the magnetic disk or the magnetic head, There is an effect that a highly reliable magnetic disk device can be obtained.
