As described above, in the conventional wide TV, the viewer manually performs mode conversion and adjustment of vertical position and vertical amplitude according to the image each time the image source is switched. However, there is a problem in that a so-called aspect conversion, which makes the display mode on the display screen different, must be operated, and an extremely complicated operation is required. Furthermore, there is a possibility that the number of modes for displaying a video signal with an aspect ratio of 4: 3 will increase in the future. In that case, the remote control transmitter must be provided with an aspect specification button corresponding to that mode. However, there was a problem that the usability became poor.

Further, the wide television receiver of the present invention operates as follows. As an example, when there is no upper and lower mask portion and the second automatic aspect conversion instruction button is pressed, the image analysis circuit 1 also determines that the aspect ratio is 4: 3 (there is no upper and lower mask portion), and 1
The aspect conversion circuit 2 is instructed to change the aspect to a mode (for example, a mode) different from the mode of the first time. Therefore, when the automatic aspect conversion instruction button is pressed again (third time), it is determined that the aspect ratio is 4: 3 (the upper and lower mask portions are not present), and the mode different from the second mode (for example, the mode ), The aspect conversion circuit 2 is instructed to convert the aspect. As described above, when there is no upper and lower mask portion, the mode is first set, but if the automatic aspect conversion instruction button is further pressed, the mode is sequentially changed like, for example, mode → mode →. As a result, even if the viewer is not satisfied with the first aspect conversion, another mode can be set by further pressing the automatic aspect conversion instruction button. When there are no upper and lower mask portions and when there are upper and lower mask portions, the priority order of the modes may be set, and the modes may be sequentially changed according to the priority order.
