る。このような加熱定着を行う画像形成装置にあって
は、電源を投入してから最初の複写を行うまでには、定
着器が所定の温度に上昇し加熱定着が可能となるまでの
時間待機しなければならなかった。この待機時間を短縮
するには、定着器の電力容量を上げより多くの熱量を短
い時間に供給するか、定着器の材質を熱伝導のよいもの
にするか等の方法が採られている。しかし、前者の方法
によれば、装置全体の消費電力が増大し、一般的な電源
コンセントの容量(15A)を越えてしまう惧れがあ
る。また、後者の方法によれば、定着器が温たまるのも
早いが、冷えるのも早く、定着器を一定の温度に保つに
は定着器の表面温度を検出して電源を頻繁にON/OF
F制御することとなり、電源ONのたびにフューザラン
プのヒータにラッシュ電流が流れるので、ランプヒータ
やスイッチやスイッチ素子の寿命を縮める不都合があ
る。また、特開昭60−123878号公報には、電源
電圧が定格の90%以下程度に低下した場合に定着器へ
の供給電力と放出熱量のバランスが崩れ、定着が不完全
となるのを防ぐため、装置の複写速度を遅くすることが
提案されているが、電源投入時の待機時間を短縮するこ
とに関しては何ら考慮されていない。

プ14を内蔵したヒートロール15と、このヒートロー
ルと対向して設けられたプレッシャロール16と、ヒー
トロール16の表面温度を検出する温度検出手段17と
から構成されコピー用紙上に転写されたトナー像を熱に
よって溶融定着するよう構成されている。制御部6から
のヒータ温度に関する制御信号はヒータ点灯制御部18
に出力され、駆動系の速度に関する制御信号は駆動系制
御部19に出力される。画像形成装置1の操作パネル2
0には、電源スイッチ、原稿サイズやコピー用紙サイズ
を設定するスイッチ、複写枚数設定スイッチ、スタート
スイッチ等複写に必要な情報や指令を入力する手段が設
けられている。制御手段6は操作パネル20からの入力
された情報や指令に基づいて駆動系制御部19へ制御信
号を出力し、画像形成装置1の走査光学系2,感光体
3,搬送機構4,定着器5などを所定の速度とタイミン
グで駆動させるとともに、別の制御信号によって帯電器
7,現像器8,転写器9,クリーナ10等の各種手段お
よび装置の動作を制御する。制御手段6は、更に定着器
