2. Description of the Related Art Generally, in a double-sided copying apparatus, a double-sided tray is used in order to provide a backside copy of a transfer sheet on which front side copying has been completed. FIG. 4 shows a conventional example of this type of double-sided copying machine known from Japanese Patent Laid-Open No. 58-68763. According to this, in the case of a normal single-sided copy, after the image formed on the photoconductor 1 is transferred from the cassette 2 to the transfer paper 4 fed by the paper feed roller 3 at the transfer portion 5, the conveyance belt 6 Then, the fixing device 7 and the discharge roller 8 are discharged and discharged onto the discharge tray 9. On the other hand, in the case of double-sided copying, the transfer paper 4 which has passed through the fixing device 7 and which has been surface-copied is guided by the switching claw 10 toward the double-sided tray 11 and stored on the double-sided tray 11 with the copy side facing up. The sheet is re-fed by the conveying roller 12, and the oblique feeding section 13
After that, the sheet is fed to the portion of the sheet feeding roller 3 and is re-fed to the transfer portion 5 by the sheet feeding roller 3 to perform back side copying. It is characterized in that the double-sided tray 11 is integrated with the paper discharge tray 9 protruding to the outside of the machine and arranged vertically.

However, in the case of this method, the transfer paper 4 for back side copying is moved from the state where it is stored in the double-sided tray 11 to the conveying roller 1.
2. Since the sheet is fed to the transfer section 5 through a long re-feeding conveyance path including the diagonal feeding section 13 and the sheet feeding roller 3, it takes a long time to perform a fast copy during double-sided copy back surface processing. In particular, it is remarkable when making a single copy (one-to-one mode).
Further, since the paper discharge tray 9 and the double-sided tray 11 projecting out of the machine are integrated, these tray parts have a large thickness, and the jammed paper in the double-sided tray 11 and the oblique feeding portion 13 are formed. It is difficult to remove jammed paper.
Furthermore, the transfer paper 4 on the double-sided tray 11 cannot be directly fed by the conveying roller 12, and a dedicated re-feeding device that goes through the oblique feeding portion 13 is required, which complicates the process.
In addition, the copying mode is not limited to double-sided copying,
There is a case where it is desired to perform a composite copy (multiple copy) in which an image is transferred several times on the same surface of the transfer paper 4, but such a composite copy is difficult in the case of the conventional method shown in FIG.

Then, when the copy operation is started, the transfer paper 31 is sent by the paper feed roller 35 F to the transfer unit 25 through the first paper feed conveyance path 38, and the image on the photoconductor 21 is transferred here.
Further, it is fixed by the fixing device 27 to complete the front side copy. The transfer paper 31 that has been copied on the front surface is the switching claw 4
Since guided toward the reversing path 41 by 3,44, released accommodated on the bottom plate 34 R of the rear stage cassette portion 32 R copy surface by the conveying path 46 back its inverted is set to be on top. When the transfer paper 31 is stored, the pressure lever 36r does not act and the bottom plate 34r is separated from the paper feed roller 35r, so that stacking of a large number of sheets is not hindered. or,
In the cassette 32, since the common side fence 37 is used by both the cassette parts 32f and 32r,
As shown in the figure, the transfer sheet 31 can be discharged and stored in the rear cassette section 32r in the same aligned state as the front cassette section 32f side without providing the aligning section such as the oblique feeding section 13 in particular. Further, the reverse path 41 is provided on the lower surface of the discharge tray 29.
Although the transfer sheet 31 is formed, it does not contain the transfer sheet 31 but only one sheet of the transfer sheet 31 needs to enter.
The interval of 1 can be small, and the tray portion does not become thick and large.

When the front side copy process is completed in this way, the process moves to the back side copy. First, the pressure lever 36r is raised by a command and the bottom plate 34r is pushed up, so that the uppermost paper of the transfer paper 31 stocked in the rear cassette portion 32r comes into pressure contact with the paper feed roller 35r. Then, by rotating the paper feed roller 35r, the transfer paper 31 is re-fed to the transfer unit 25 through the second paper feed conveyance path 39 and is used for back side copying. After that, when the double-sided copying is completed by fixing by the fixing device 27, the transfer paper 31 is discharged onto the paper discharge tray 29 through the paper discharge conveyance path 30 by switching the switching claw 43. During this backside copy process,
While the transfer paper 31 is stored in the rear cassette 32r, the transfer paper 25 is immediately transferred by the short second paper feed / transport path 39.
Since the paper is fed in, the time for the first copy can be shortened.

By the way, in the one-sided copy mode (one-to-one copy mode) in the double-sided copy mode, the transfer paper 31 is also stored in the rear cassette section 32r from the beginning, and the second paper feed conveyance path 39 is transferred from the rear cassette section 32r. The transfer paper is fed to the transfer section 25 to make a front side copy.
As described above, after returning 1 to the rear cassette section 32r through the reversal return conveyance path 46, the sheet can be immediately re-fed through the second paper feed conveyance path 39 for back copy. That is, the rear cassette unit 32r can function as both a paper feed cassette and a double-sided tray. According to such a single-copy process, the transfer path of the transfer paper 31 becomes shorter, so that the copy time can be shortened.

Next, the composite copy mode will be described. Basically, it is the same as in the double-sided copy mode, but the transfer sheet 31 fed from the front cassette section 32f and copied passes through the fixing device 27 and then enters the inversion path 41 by switching the switching claws 43 and 44. Without being turned, it is turned by the return conveyance path 47 and is conveyed by the conveyance roller 45 to the rear cassette portion 32r.
It is released and stored. That is, the copy surface is stored facing down. Then, in the second copy, the transfer sheet 31 is then fed from the cassette section 32r to the transfer section 25 through the second sheet feeding / conveying path 39, and the copied surface is provided for copying again, and the composite copy is made. Is done. After that, the sheet is discharged onto the sheet discharge tray 29 through the fixing device 27 and the sheet discharge conveyance path 30. In this way, it is possible to easily meet the request for the synthetic copy.

Effect Since the present invention is configured as described above, it is possible to meet not only double-sided recording on a transfer sheet but also a request for composite recording for overlapping recording on the same side with a simple structure.
In either case of composite recording, when re-feeding, it is possible to immediately feed to the transfer section for recording by the short second paper feeding / conveying path, and thus it is possible to shorten the time of the fast recording. Even in the case of single-sided recording, it can be effectively used for the front and rear cassettes, and in particular, the height of the apparatus main body can be reduced.
