Abstract

PURPOSE:To simultaneously confirm engaging work of a pair of connectors to be engaged with each other and the perfect engagement without additional work. CONSTITUTION:An engagement confirming slider 14 is movably disposed in a female housing A in the direction crossing the engaging direction. A means (U-shaped spring 17) is provided for energizing the slider 14 in the direction contrary to the moving direction. An engaging portion 3 is formed in a male housing B. A return stopper 16 having a slope 16a to be driven, which is engaged with the engaging portion 3, is disposed in the slider 14. In a process of engaging the housings, the engaging portion 3 is slidden with respect to the slope 16a to be driven so that the slider 14 is moved in the direction contrary to the energizing direction. Accordingly, the tip 14a of the slider 14 is projected from the female housing A. Consequently, the slider 14 is resiliently returned to the original position at the time of completion of the engagement.

2. Description of the Related Art An electrical connector is for connecting female and male terminal fittings housed inside by fitting a pair of opposing connector housings. In order to secure the electrical connection, an electrical connector is provided between both housings. Locking means is provided to prevent the lock from coming off. Assembling and fitting work of the electrical connector depends on human labor, but since the number of connectors to be connected is extremely large, there is a possibility that unlocked products may be produced due to improper fitting. It is difficult to visually detect this in the subsequent inspection process, especially when using an electrical connector in a wiring system such as an air bag device, in terms of safety, incomplete fitting or unlocking is required. Is not allowed.

The device shown in FIG. 21 has the following problems. It is necessary to confirm the fitting. This is because after the fitting work of the female and male housings is completed, the lock lever e is rotated and the lock is fully locked to confirm the fitting. When used in case C, a clearance space is required on the case side. This is because the lock lever e is rotated between the temporary lock position and the main lock position, so that it is necessary to secure a space S that allows the rotation in the case. This is a kind of dead space. It is difficult to visually confirm whether or not the lock lever e is locked. This is because there is not much change in the states of the main lock and the temporary lock, and it is difficult for the operator to distinguish.

Next, the operation of the slider 14 will be described with reference to FIGS. When the male housing B is inserted into the fitting chamber 7 1 of the female housing A as shown in (A), the tip of the engaging portion 3 is detented on the back surface of the slider 14.
When the slider 14 comes into contact with the driven slope 16a of No. 6 and is further pressed, the slider 14 moves in the direction of arrow M. As a result, the tip portion 14a of the slider 14 slightly projects from the window 12. At the same time, the U-shaped spring 17 whose bottom portion 17a is supported by the spring receiver 15 also moves in the direction of the arrow M, and the guide pin 17c at the tip of the elastic arm 17b slides on the tapered surface 11a, so that both elastic arms 17b and 17b move. The elastic repulsive force in the direction opposite to the arrow line M is narrowed.

Then, as shown in (C), since the engaging portion 3 crosses over the driven slope 16a and the engagement between them is released, the slider 14 is released by the elastic repulsive force accumulated in the U-shaped spring 17. It momentarily moves in the direction opposite to arrow M. That is, the slider 14 is returned to its original position by completely inserting the female housing B into the fitting chamber 7 1 . as a result,
The detent 16 is located immediately after the engaging portion 3, and the male housing B is locked with the slider 14 (female housing A).
At the same time, since the locking protrusion 2a of the locking arm 2 engages with the locking recess 19 (see FIG. 4) of the female housing A,
The female and male housings A and B are doubly locked. To release the lock, push down the locking arm 2 and press the locking protrusion 2a.
And the engaging recess 9 are disengaged, and in this state the slider 1
4 can be performed by moving 4 in the direction of arrow M as in (B) above.

As described above, when the female and male housings A and B are fitted together, the tip portion 14a of the slider 14 projects from the window 12, so that the operator can visually check this at the same time as the fitting operation. If the coloring of the slider 14 is different from that of the female housing A as described above, the confirmation is easier. Thus, incomplete fitting of the female and male housings A and B is prevented in advance. Since the slider 14 only slightly reciprocates in parallel with the upper side wall of the hood 5 of the female housing B, it does not require a large space for mounting and can be compactly stored in the case C or the like.
