The present invention relates to a modified polyisocyanate for polyurethane molded articles, and more particularly to a method for producing a modified polyisocyanate for polyurethane molded articles that is liquid at room temperature and has improved performance. Diphenylmethane diisocyanate (hereinafter
MDI (abbreviated as MDI) is one of the most industrially useful diisocyanates and is used in a wide range of applications such as microcellular elastomers, foams, paints, and fibers. However, as is well known, MDI is solid at room temperature and is rarely used as it is, but is often used after being liquefied by some method.There are many ways to modify MDI in various ways and liquefy it. Proposed. A typical method is to introduce a carbodiimide group or uretonimine group by polymerizing MDI. Liquid MDI modified by this method is characterized by an average number of functional groups greater than 2. A method of producing liquid MDI by reacting MDI with a dihydroxy compound has also been proposed. For example, Japanese Patent Publication No. 58-13567 discloses a method using a mixture of three types of alkylene glycol as a dihydroxy compound, and Japanese Patent Publication No. 57-197254 discloses a method using a mixture of 2,2,4,4-tetraalkyl 1,3 - A method using cyclobutanediol has been proposed, and a method using a relatively large molecular weight diol such as polyether polyol is also known. Liquid DMI obtained by these methods consists of a mixture of the addition reaction product of diol and MDI and unreacted MDI, and the properties of the obtained liquid MDI vary depending on the content of the addition reaction product and the size of the molecular weight. come. As mentioned above, MDI is used in a wide range of fields, and performance is required depending on the application. For example, when used to manufacture interior and exterior materials for automobiles, liquid MDI must have a low viscosity;
The production cycle time for obtaining molded products is required to be short, and the resulting molded products are required to have appropriate hardness and good elongation properties. Polyurethane resins using liquid MDI obtained by using diols with low molecular weights as modifiers usually tend to be hard, but have poor elongation properties. The polyurethane resin used is easy to stretch, but tends to be soft. The purpose of the present invention is to provide MDI that is liquid at room temperature.
Another purpose is to create a liquid form that gives the polyurethane resin appropriate hardness and excellent elongation properties.
It is to provide MDI. That is, the present invention provides a method for producing a modified polyisocyanate having an NCO group at the terminal by reacting 4,4'- and/or 2,4'-diphenylmethane diisocyanate with a dihydroxy compound. The compound has a general formula

Examples of branched aliphatic diols consisting of 90% by weight include propylene glycol, dipropylene glycol, tripropylene glycol, polypropylene glycol, 2-ethylhexyldiol-
(1,3), 2-methylpentanediol-(2,
4) and mixtures thereof. These diols are easily mixed with hydrogenated bisphenol diols. In the present invention, when a hydrogenated bisphenol diol and a branched aliphatic diol are used together, both diols may be mixed in advance to produce a modified polyisocyanate, or they may be used separately. A synthesized modified polyisocyanate may be mixed. The modified polyisocyanates of the present invention have an NCO group content of 18-30 weight percent and can be prepared by conventional methods. For example, it is produced by mixing the dihydroxy compound in molten MDI and reacting it. The reaction is advantageously carried out at a temperature of 40-120°C, especially 60-100°C, but it is also possible to use temperatures outside this range. Stabilizers, antioxidants, etc. known in the art can be added to the modified polyisocyanate. The modified polyisocyanates of the present invention can be used in all kinds of polyaddition reactions in the polyurethane industry.
For example, polyurethane foam, microcellular polyurethane, or polyurethane elastomer,
Useful in the production of polyurethane paints. The modified polyisocyanate for polyurethane molded articles of the present invention may be used as a sole isocyanate component in the production of the above-mentioned polyurethane resin, or may be used as a single isocyanate component, such as a carbodiimide-modified polyisocyanate that is liquid at room temperature. or polymeric MDI. Next, the present invention will be explained by examples. In the examples, all "parts" are "parts by weight" unless otherwise specified. Example 1 883 parts of 4,4'-MDI was put into a reactor equipped with a stirrer, a nitrogen purge port, and a thermometer, melted, and maintained at 70°C. To this, 117 parts of 2,2'-bis(4-cyclohexanol)propane/dipropylene glycol =
1/4 (weight ratio) of mixed diol was added and mixed.
The reaction was completed in 3 hours at 70°C. The resulting modified polyisocyanate has an NCO content of 23% and a temperature of 25 °C.
It had a viscosity of 800cps. Examples 2 to 3 Using the raw materials and usage amounts listed in Table 1, Example 1
All of the modified polyisocyanates produced by the method described in Table 1 are liquid at room temperature, and
It had the NCO content and viscosity described in .
