Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve a performance in reading a bar code by a method wherein a space area other than characters, signs, and the like printed on a sheet is detected, and a bar code corresponding to an address is printed in the area. CONSTITUTION:A title device consists of a transport path 20 for transporting a sheet 10; a scanning part 40 for converting characters, signs, and the like on the sheet 10 to quantized video signals; an address detection part 50 for detecting the position of an address; a bar code printing area assigning part 60 for detecting a space part on the sheet 10 and assigning a bar code printing area; a bar code printing part 80 for printing a bar code in the assigned area; and a bar code reading part 90 for reading the bar code. Therefore, a performance in reading a bar code can be improved by detecting a space area on a sheet and printing the bar code in the area.

The paper sheet 10 is indicated by an arrow C along the conveying path 20.
When the sheet is conveyed in the direction and passes through the detection point P, the light source 30 irradiates the entire sheet, and the reflected light is projected on the scanning unit 40. The scanning unit 40 photoelectrically converts characters and codes on the paper sheet 10 and outputs the quantized video signal to the address detection unit 50, the barcode printing area designation unit 60 and the character recognition unit 70. .. The address detector 50 detects the position of the address printed or written on the paper sheet 10.
The signal indicating the position is sent to the character recognition unit 70.

The bar code print area designating unit 60 detects a blank area, that is, a blank area in which characters or codes are not printed or described, from the video signal on the paper sheet 10 to detect a blank area. An appropriate area is designated as the code printing area, and the area is, for example, in FIG.
When the lower left corner of 0 is the origin 0, it can be given by the coordinates of two points S 1 (x 1 , y 1 ) and S 2 (x 2 , y 2 ). -Code printing unit 8
It is output to 0. Reference numeral 15 in FIG. 3 shows an example of the bar code printed in this area. The technique for detecting the blank area is performed by applying the technique described in the above-mentioned Japanese Patent Application No. 48-142240.
Since it can be easily realized by detecting the area other than the code string, the description thereof will be omitted.
