CONSTITUTION:In an ultraviolet lamp for generating ozone from oxygen by applying ultraviolet rays, the ultraviolet lamp 6 is covered by a case 11 having a prescribed shielding area or a case capable of adjusting its shielding area so as to control the amount of applied ultraviolet rays. By this ultraviolet lamp, generation of ozone is controlled corresponding to the amount of ethylene in an introducing ethylene-containing air so that, e.g. consumption of a catalyst due to treatment of excess ozone may be avoided.
