Abstract

PURPOSE: To reduce weight and enable formation from one-piece blank with the first and second panels by forming an inner sleeve with the first panel; an outer sleeve, cover and each end flap with the second panel, and a hinged top with a rounded end. Description

Detailed Description of the Invention

The present invention relates to a cigarette pack, and more particularly to a hinge top box with rounded ends (cross section) of the cigarette.

Cigarettes are typically sold in packs of 10 to 25 cigarettes. Two types of packs are commonly used. The first type is a bundle of cigarettes wrapped inside a foil, usually wrapped with a paper with trademark and other information printed on the outside, and then wrapped with a polypropylene layer that is resealed. The second type is a rigid paperboard box that contains a foil-wrapped cigarette bundle and has a lid on its top that rotates about a hinge. The insertion of paperboard, which typically surrounds the bundle, provides a friction engagement surface to keep the lid in the closed position, at least near the top of the box, if required. The notch in the insert allows the smoker to easily remove the cigarette from the box. The second type of this pack is also wrapped with a sealed polypropylene layer.

Each type of pack has its own strengths and weaknesses. Soft packs have soft corners and are dented as the cigarette is pulled out of them, with the exterior indication being similar to the number of cigarettes remaining in the pack as the contents are smoked, while still remaining in the smoker's pocket or bag. It becomes less bulky. But once the soft pack polypropylene package is opened, it cannot be sealed again. As a result, cigarettes or loose cigarettes in the pack eventually fall from the pack into the smoker's pocket or bag. If the puck is treated roughly, the cigarette can also be damaged. Despite the provision of cigarette boxes with curved edges and end flaps, the end flaps have not been properly incorporated in relation to each other and within the top and bottom edges of the box.

It is an object of the present invention to provide a lightweight cigarette pack having a rounded end and a hinged top.

Another object of the present invention is to provide a cigarette pack that can be formed from a single blank.

Yet another object of the present invention is to provide a cigarette pack having a flat elliptical contour.

According to the invention, a box with a rounded hinge top has an inner sleeve member which fits inside the outer sleeve member and which can be opened or closed for contact with the cigarette. It is prepared by having a cover member. Inner and outer end flaps are provided at both ends of the rounded end box thus formed. Each inner end flap is made slightly smaller than each outer end flap. This arrangement helps align the flat elliptical shape to ensure proper formation of the rounded end cigarette box of the present invention. The height of the outer sleeve member with the cover member formed therein is preferably greater than the length of the cigarette. The rounded end cigarette box may instead be formed from a separate blank.
