Abstract

PURPOSE:To decrease the number of pieces of ICs to be used, and to reduce the cost of the liquid crystal panel by forming integrally three pieces of liquid crystal panels and using a scanning line driving IC in common. CONSTITUTION:By integrating three pieces of liquid crystal panels onto one piece of lower side substrate 1, a scanning line 5 is used in common and driven by two pieces of scanning line driving ICs 4. As for a data line 6, different signals are inputted to three pieces of liquid crystal panels, respectively, but as for the scanning line 5, a scan in the vertical direction is its purpose, therefore, three pieces of liquid crystal panels can all be used in common by the same signal. In this case, possibility that the manufacturing yield is deteriorated against a defect of the liquid crystal panel is also high, therefore, it is also considered that three pieces of liquid crystal panels having no defect manufactured as a conventional method are connected to one piece of panel by using a connection FPC. According to this method, it does not occur to become disadvantageous in respect of yield.

In such a liquid crystal projector, since the ratio of the liquid crystal panel to the product cost is high, there is a strong demand for cost reduction. For that purpose, it is necessary to increase the manufacturing yield of the liquid crystal panel and to make the liquid crystal driving IC somehow inexpensive.

A conventional liquid crystal panel will be described below with reference to the drawings. FIG. 4 is a plan view showing a conventional liquid crystal panel. A data line driving IC 3 and a scanning line driving IC 4 are mounted on the lower substrate 1. Liquid crystal is sealed between the counter substrate 2 and the lower substrate 1, and the scanning lines 5 and the data lines 6 are included.
Driven by. In the liquid crystal panel produced by the inventor, about one-third of the material cost is the price of the IC. It is difficult to manufacture a low-cost liquid crystal panel unless the IC price is reduced by reducing the chip area of one IC to reduce the unit price or reducing the number of IC chips used.

FIG. 5 is a perspective view showing a conventional liquid crystal projector. Light emitted from a light source 12 is separated into three primary colors by a dichroic mirror 9 and is incident on three liquid crystal panels 8 and is forwarded via a reflecting mirror 10 and a projection lens 11. Projected on the screen. A video signal is decomposed into three primary colors and input to the liquid crystal panel 8, and an image corresponding to the video signal can be projected.

However, in the above-mentioned conventional method, six ICs are used for one liquid crystal panel, and eighteen driving ICs are required for three liquid crystal panels. As described above, the driving IC is expensive, which is one of the factors that hinder the cost reduction of the liquid crystal panel.

(Embodiment 1) FIG. 1 is a plan view showing a liquid crystal panel of a first embodiment of the present invention. By forming the three liquid crystal panels shown in the conventional example on one lower substrate 1, the scanning lines 5 are made common and can be driven by the two scanning line driving ICs 4. Different signals are input to the data lines 6 on the three liquid crystal panels, but the scanning lines 5 are for the purpose of vertical scanning, and therefore the same signals can be applied to the three liquid crystal panels and can be shared.

(Embodiment 2) FIG. 2 is a plan view showing a liquid crystal panel according to a second embodiment of the present invention. 1 as in Example 1
If three liquid crystal panels are formed on the lower substrate of one sheet, there is a high possibility that the manufacturing yield will decrease due to defects in the liquid crystal panel. Therefore, in this embodiment, three liquid crystal panels are manufactured as in the conventional case, and three defect-free liquid crystal panels are used for connection F.
It is one panel that is connected using the PC 7. With this method, there is no disadvantage in yield from the conventional liquid crystal panel.
