で別の記録媒体の同じ位置に複写できないようにしたも

管理方法を実施するシステムの構成の一例を示す。図に
おいて、メーカによりデータが記録された光ディスク媒
体は、光ディスク装置5にセットされ、オペレータがキ
ーボード3から入力したコマンドにしたがい、CPU
(中央処理装置)1の指令に基づいて光ディスク装置5
によりデータが読み出され、メモリ4に格納され、CP
U1によって情報処理される。本実施例では、図2に示
すように、光ディスク媒体6内のトラック7上に設けら
れているセクタ8を、図3に示すごとく、データ領域9
と、あらかじめメーカが自由に設定できるベンダーユニ
ークと呼ばれている管理領域10と、エラー訂正符号領
域11とにより構成し、メーカから提供されるデータ
は、セクタ8のデータ領域9と管理領域10に分割して
記録(書き込み)し、データを読み出す(再生)際に
は、必ずデータ領域9と管理領域10を読み出すことに
よりデータが完成されるようにするものである。本実施
例で例示した光ディスク媒体6の記録データを、ユーザ
が複製しようとする場合には、データ領域9の管理領域
10に書かれていたデータを、ユーザは別の媒体のデー
タ領域9の同じ位置に書かなければならないが、管理領
域10はユーザが書き込みすることができず、読み出し
のみしかできないために、複製した光ディスク媒体のデ
ータ領域9と管理領域10からデータを再生しようとす
ると、オリジナルの光ディスク媒体とは異なったデータ
が形成されることになり、したがってコピーした光ディ
スク媒体は使用不可能となる。図4(a)、(b)に、
オリジナルディスクとコピーディスクの見分け方の一例
を示す。図4(a)は、それぞれのディスクのデータ領
域9を読み込んだ後、引き続き管理領域10を読み込
み、情報処理して、エラー発生状態からオリジナルディ
スクかコピーディスクかを判定する方法である。図4
(b)は、データ領域9と管理領域10を順次読み込ん
だ後、コピー禁止情報を比較して、これが一致した場合
には情報処理は継続されるが、一方、不一致となった場
合には、コピーディスクと判定して情報処理は停止され
る。このように、光ディスク等の記録媒体のセクタフォ
ーマットに、媒体製作者はデータを自由に書き込むこと
ができるが、使用者には読み出しのみしかできない管理
領域をデータ領域の一部に設けることにより、使用者に
よるデータの無断複製を容易に禁止することができる。
