Abstract

PURPOSE:To enable sure and easy assembling and fixing of a temp. detecting element by pressing the temp. detecting element to a liquid crystal panel surface by using an elastic member, thereby fixing this element. CONSTITUTION:The temp. detecting element 6 is pressed and fixed to the liquid crystal panel surface by using the elastic member 12. Namely, lead wires 8, etc., are wired to the elastic member 12, such as foamed silicone sponge, and thereafter, the temp. detecting element (thermistor) 6 is fixed by using a silicone resin 14, etc., to the end face 11 to which the driving circuit of the liquid crystal panel 1 is not connected at the time of mounting the temp. detecting element (thermistor) 6. The elastic member 12 is then pressed to the liquid crystal panel 1 by a fixing member 15 from the end face 13 on the side opposite from the temp. detecting element 6. Only the air of high thermal resistance in addition to the elastic member 12, such as foamed silicone sponge, are allowed to exist around the temp. detecting element 6 so that the temp. detecting element 6 can exactly detect the temp. of the liquid crystal panel at this time.

2. Description of the Related Art FIG. 5 is a sectional view showing a structure of a liquid crystal display unit which has been conventionally used. This unit is transparent to a substrate such as glass on a fluorescent lamp 3 and a backlight consisting of a reflector 5 for reflecting the light of the fluorescent lamp to guide it to the front and a diffuser 4 for uniformly illuminating the display range. Polarizing plates 2 are attached to both surfaces of a liquid crystal panel 1 in which electrodes are arranged to face each other and a liquid crystal is sandwiched therebetween, and a temperature detecting element 6 is sealed in a portion (for example, an outer peripheral portion) that does not cover the display range of the liquid crystal panel 1. It is attached by the adhesive 7 which also serves as the adhesive, and is wired by the lead wire 8 to the control board 9 attached to the rear surface of the unit. A cover 10 is attached to the front surface of the liquid crystal panel. Since the liquid crystal, especially the ferroelectric liquid crystal, has a narrow temperature margin during driving, the temperature detecting element 6 is used for optimally controlling the driving condition of the liquid crystal panel 1. Further, since the response speed of liquid crystal, particularly ferroelectric liquid crystal, decreases at low temperature, a liquid crystal display device may be provided with a heater for heating to keep the response speed above a certain level. The temperature detecting element 6 is also used to control the driving conditions of this heater.

However, in the assembly process, the adhesive used for fixing the temperature detecting element has a long drying time, and a tool is necessary to surely bring the temperature detecting element into contact with the liquid crystal panel surface. I had a hard time mounting the element.
Further, the temperature detecting element has a drawback that if there is a member lower than the temperature resistance of the liquid crystal panel in the surroundings, the temperature cannot be detected accurately due to the influence of the external temperature.

EXAMPLES The present invention will be described in more detail with reference to the following examples. FIG. 1 is a perspective view of the vicinity of a mounting portion of a temperature detecting element of a liquid crystal display unit according to an embodiment of the present invention. In FIG. 1, members common to or corresponding to those in FIG. 5 are designated by the same reference numerals. In FIG. 1, when attaching the temperature detecting element (thermistor) 6, first, the liquid crystal panel 1
The temperature detecting element (thermistor) 6 is fixed to the elastic member 12 such as a foamed silicon sponge on the end face 11 to which the drive circuit is not connected, after the lead wire 8 and the like are wired using the silicone resin 14. Next, the elastic member 12
The fixing member 15 is an end surface 13 opposite to the temperature detecting element 6.
Then, the fixing member 15 is attached so as to be pressed against the liquid crystal panel 1. At this time, in order to allow the temperature detecting element 6 to accurately detect the temperature of the liquid crystal panel,
As shown in FIG. 5, it is necessary to ensure that only air having a large thermal resistance exists around the temperature detecting element 6 except for the elastic member 12 such as a silicone foam sponge.

Other Embodiments The present invention is not limited to the above-described embodiments, but can be modified and implemented as appropriate. The fixing member 15 only needs to reliably press the elastic member 12 to which the temperature detecting element 6 is fixed to the liquid crystal panel 1. Therefore, for example, as shown in FIG. 3, components such as a backlight around the liquid crystal panel are provided. A fixing claw for fixing the elastic member 12 may be integrally formed as the fixing member 15.

Further, the position where the temperature detecting element 6 is attached does not have to be the end face of the liquid crystal panel 1, and as shown in FIG. 4, the surface of the liquid crystal panel 1 which is not covered by the display range is used as described above. The temperature detecting element 6 in which the lead wire 8 is wired to the elastic member 12 such as the silicone foam sponge may be sealed with the silicone resin 14 or the like and fixed so as to be embedded in the gap between the liquid crystal panel 1 and the backlight.
