Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve adhesion between paint coat and a golf ball surface by irradiating an infrared ray to the surface before coating. CONSTITUTION:As a cover material for concealing the surface of a golf ball, ionomer resin as ion-bridged thermo-plastic resin, for example, is used. As a surface cover molding method, either a press molding method for a thread- wound golf ball or an injection molding method used for a solid golf ball, may be applied. Prior to coating the surface of the gold ball, an infrared ray is irradiated thereto. The method, time and amount for infrared irradiation may be suitably selected and not limited specifically. After exposed to the infrared ray, the surface of the golf ball is coated. As a coating material in this case, ordinary urethane resin paint or the like may be used. Also, the application thereof may follow a normal practice.

Conventionally, the surface of a golf ball is generally coated with paint. This surface painting is done to retain stamped characters, numbers, marks, etc., and to maintain gloss and beauty. Furthermore, in order to increase the adhesion between the paint film and the surface of the golf ball, a brimer is applied to the surface of the golf ball prior to painting.

However, applying such a primer makes the painting process complicated and requires a lot of work time. In particular, since ionomer resins are often used as cover materials for golf balls, this resin has a low melting point and cannot be dried at a high drying temperature, resulting in the problem that it takes a long time to coat.

The golf ball surface treatment method of the present invention is characterized in that, prior to coating the surface of the golf ball, the surface of the golf ball is irradiated with ultraviolet rays. Here, the golf ball may be a solid golf ball such as a two-piece golf ball, a one-piece golf ball, or a thread-wound golf ball.

As described above, in the present invention, since the surface of the golf ball is irradiated with ultraviolet rays prior to coating, it is possible to improve the adhesion between the coating film and the surface of the golf ball. This simplifies the painting process because the primer application process can be omitted, and also improves the impact resistance of the paint film since there is no need to use a primer that is weak against bending. I can do it.

is used. The surface cover may be formed by either press molding, which is used for thread-wound golf balls, or injection molding, which is used for solid golf poles. Further, in the present invention, before irradiating with ultraviolet rays, it is preferable to wash the surface of the golf ball with a solvent as necessary in order to remove the mold release agent adhering to the surface of the golf ball.
