  1. ２枚の基板と、該基板にホモジニアス配向され
    た複屈折性を呈する捩れネマテイツクの液晶層と
    、各々の基板の外側に配置された偏光子と、少な
    くもと一方の基板と偏光子の間に挿入された位相
    板とを具備し、前記位相板は観察者側に配置され
    た第一の位相板とその第一の位相板の後方に配置
    され第一の位相板より複屈折異方性△ｎ・ｄの大
    きい第二の位相板を含むことを特徴とする液晶表
    示器。
