Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent the increase of the outside diameter of the tip of an optical fiber even when an interference film filter is vapor-deposited on the tip, to always insert the fiber into capillaries of the same inside diameter, to simplify work and to reduce loss due to connection by making the outside diameter of the tip of the fiber smaller than that of the other part. CONSTITUTION:The periphery 1a of the tip of an optical fiber 1 is etched with hydrofluoric acid to make the outside diameter of the tip having about 5mum length smaller than that of the other part. The outside diameter B of the tip of the fiber 1 after vapor deposition is made smaller than that A of the other part by about 1-12mum. Even when an interference film filter 2 is vapor-deposited on the tip of the fiber 1, the outside diameter of the tip is not increased, the fiber can always be inserted into capillaries of the same inside diameter, work is simplified and loss due to connection is not increased.

[Prior art] 7. The tip structure of the optical fiber used in the conventional optical filter is as follows:
As shown in FIG. 2(a), an interference film filter 20 is deposited on the end face of the optical fiber 10, and a deposited film 30b is always formed on the side surface of the tip. This is because when the interference film filter 20 is deposited, the optical fiber 10 must be made to slightly protrude from the jig 30 as shown in FIG. 2(b), otherwise when the optical fiber 10 is removed from the jig 30 This is because the interference film filter 20 may be damaged.

A conventional optical filter is manufactured by inserting the optical fiber 10 with the vapor-deposited film formed in this way halfway into a small diameter hole provided in a capillary, which is slightly larger than the outer diameter of the optical fiber 10, and Another optical fiber is inserted from the opposite side of the hole and held fixed at the butt position via an alignment material.

In the conventional optical fiber tip structure described above, the vapor deposited film 30b is always formed on the side surface of the tip, so the outer diameter of the tip of the optical fiber becomes thicker by 2 to 3 μm, and the m diameter provided in the capillary increases. There is a problem that if the inner diameter of the optical fiber hole is 1 to 2 μm larger than the outer diameter of the optical fiber, there is a risk that the optical fiber cannot be inserted. Due to variations in the outer diameter of the tip, the gap between the small diameter hole in the capillary and the optical fiber becomes large, which tends to cause misalignment of the optical axis.
There are problems in that it takes a lot of adjustment man-hours and the connection loss of the optical fiber may increase.

An object of the present invention is to simplify the work by not increasing the outer diameter of the tip of the optical fiber even if an interference film filter is deposited on the end face of the optical fiber, and allowing the fiber to be inserted into a capillary with the same inner diameter at all times. Another object of the present invention is to provide an optical fiber tip structure that does not increase connection loss.

FIG. 1(b) is a vertical cross-sectional view showing the state during vapor deposition of the interference film filter, and shows the state in which the optical fiber 1 is held in a shape slightly protruding from the jig 3, and then the interference film filter 2 is vapor-deposited. It shows. The outer diameter B of the tip portion of the optical fiber 1 after vapor deposition is approximately 1 to 2 μm smaller than the outer diameter A of the other portions.

FIG. 1(c) is a longitudinal cross-sectional view of the tip of the optical fiber 1 after the interference film filter 2 has been deposited, and the tip is inserted halfway into the small diameter hole provided in the capillary. , constitutes an optical filter. At this time, if the inner diameter of the small diameter hole provided in the capillary is slightly larger than the outer diameter A of the optical fiber 1, there is no problem with insertion, and the length of the part where the outer diameter is narrow is 0. Since the distance is about 5 mm, there is no problem with the optical axis misalignment within the capillary.

As explained above, the present invention allows the optical fiber to be formed so that the outer diameter of the tip part thereof is smaller than the outer diameter of other parts, so that even if an interference film filter is deposited on the end face of the optical fiber, the optical fiber The outer diameter of the tip of the capillary does not become thick, and the capillary can always be inserted into a capillary with the same inner diameter, which simplifies work and prevents connection loss from becoming large.
