Abstract

PURPOSE:To enable efficient inspection of each liq. crystal display device and to reduce the fraction defective by sticking a protective film having such transparency as >=80% transmissivity within at least the display area of the display device. CONSTITUTION:A liq. crystal layer 2 is interposed between a pair of glass substrate 1, 1 and polarizing plates 3, 4 are stuck on the substrates 1, 1 to obtain a liq. crystal display device. When a protective film 5 of nearly colorless transparent PE having 90% transmissivity and 30mum thickness is stuck on the plate 3, the display device can be inspected without peeling the film 5, the polarizing plates, etc., are not scratched or soiled and the resticking of the polarizing plates, etc., due to surface defects of the display device can be reduced.

The uses of liquid crystal display devices have expanded in recent years, and the production volume has increased. Conventionally, the protective film for polarizing plates used in liquid crystal display devices is
Colored or cloudy film was used. Therefore, although a liquid crystal display device in the process of being manufactured is protected by a protective film, the display portion cannot be clearly seen due to the coloration or cloudiness of the protective film.

In order to conduct an accurate test, it was necessary to remove the protective film. Moreover, several tests may be required. This results in a considerable amount of man-hours. Furthermore, static electricity generated when the protective film is removed may have an adverse effect on the liquid crystal display device, resulting in the display device being defective. The present invention is aimed at solving the above-mentioned problems and achieving efficient inspection and reducing the defective rate. .

The present invention provides an anti-Ti film on the outer surface of a liquid crystal display device comprising a polarizing plate on the outer surfaces of a pair of transparent substrates facing each other with a liquid crystal sandwiched between them. The above-mentioned problem was solved by having transparency.

Example 1 FIG. 1 shows an example of a liquid crystal display device and a protective film according to the present invention. A liquid crystal display device was constructed by interposing a liquid crystal layer 2 between a pair of glass substrates 1 and 1, and pasting polarizing plates 3 and 4 on the top and bottom of the substrates. On the polarizing plate 3, the transmittance is 90% and the thickness is 30%.
A protective film 5 made of almost colorless and transparent polyethylene of μm size is attached.

This liquid crystal display device was tested without removing the protective film during the test process. As a result, compared to the conventional method of inspecting by peeling off the protective film, we were able to perform better inspections with no change in defect capture rate, but the number of man-hours was significantly reduced. Furthermore, by eliminating the stripping process, static electricity generated by peeling off the protective film can be eliminated as a cause of defects in the inspection process.

実施例2 第2図に本発明による保護膜の他の実施例を示す。Example 2 FIG. 2 shows another embodiment of the protective film according to the present invention.

When this liquid crystal display device was inspected in the same manner as in Example 1,
Similar results were obtained. Since the protective film of this embodiment is partially colored, the presence or absence of the protective film can be determined, and there is no need to forget to remove the protective film when incorporating the display device into equipment or when using it.

With the protective film for a liquid crystal display device of the present invention, a liquid crystal display device can be inspected without peeling off the protective film in the testing process. As a result, compared to the conventional method of inspecting by peeling off the protective film, not only is the defect capture rate unchanged and good inspection is possible, but the number of inspection steps can be significantly reduced. Furthermore, since the stripping step is eliminated, static electricity generated by stripping the protective film can be eliminated as a cause of defects in the inspection step. In addition, since the protective film is applied until the final stage of the manufacturing process, the polarizing plate, etc. will not be scratched or stained during the manufacturing process, and the need to replace the polarizing plate, etc. due to defects on the surface of the display device can be reduced. can.
