Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent a transparent original from being floated and to avoid deterioration in the picture quality of a read picture by containing a light source from which a light radiates to the transparent original in the inside of a cylindrical diffusion plate and allowing the cylindrical diffusion plate to retain the transparent original and to be driven. CONSTITUTION:When a picture of a transparent original is read, the transparent original 1 is carried forward by a carrier roller 2. The transparent original 1 is guided onto a face of a guide plate 7 while being curved along a glass plate 3. In this case, a cylindrical diffusion plate 20 is driven synchronously with the carrier roller 2 and the transparent original 1 is inserted between the cylindrical diffusion plate 20 and the glass plate 7. Then the picture is read. Then a series of operations is implemented synchronously with the movement of the transparent original l. Moreover, the tip of the transparent original 1 whose reading is finished is moved on the glass plate 7 while being inserted with the carrier belt 13 driven synchronously with the cylindrical diffusion plate 20 and discharged onto a support base 15.

And the transparent original (1) has a diffuser plate (6) and a glass plate (7)
At the same time, the upper light source (4) lights up. Light from the upper light source (4) is diffused by a diffusion plate (6), transmitted through a transparent original (1), and guided to a rod lens array (9). And this transmitted light is transmitted to the rod lens array (9
) is used to form an image at the same magnification on the photoelectric conversion element (10). The photoelectric conversion element (10) sequentially converts this optical signal into an electrical signal. This series of operations is performed in synchronization with the movement of the transparent original (1). Further, the transparent original (1) is transferred to the rear conveyance roller (12).

Since the conventional transparent document reading device is configured as described above, a gap is created between the diffuser plate and the glass plate, and the phenomenon that the transparent document is lifted within this gap causes the object-to-image distance of the rod lens array to be reduced. There has been a problem in that the distance from a certain transparent document surface to the image formation plane of the photoelectric conversion element changes, leading to a deterioration in the quality of the read image.
