Abstract

PURPOSE:To accurately obtain a pattern of the general message expression picture symbols by outputting the object elements to be adopted to the picture symbols for transmission of message elements and also the physical feature elements serving as the pattern production objects of the picture symbols. CONSTITUTION:A meaning storage model is formed from a network structure which is obtained by linking hierarchically a group of message elements transmitted by the picture symbols, a group 22 of object elements having the relationships with the message elements, and a group 23 of physical feature elements related to the object elements respectively in the intensity accordant with the relationship degrees set according to each experimental inspection. A control part 5 extracts a message element 21a and the object elements 22a - 22c having the functions of high relationship degrees out of the meaning storage model stored in a meaning storage model storing part 3. Thus a pattern of the general message expression picture symbols can be accurately obtained.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION [Object of the Invention] (Industrial Application Field) The present invention relates to a method for deriving a picture pattern to be adopted as a pictorial symbol representing a message element.

(Prior Art) When sending a message to another person, the message is often sent visually using pictorial symbols.

The message here refers to the existence of an object, the expression of its function,
It includes all kinds of content such as event communication and warnings (for example, a picture of an airplane to notify the presence of an airport, a picture of a train to warn people to be careful when stepping on a VJ, etc.).

For example, icons are the functions of a calculator, the objects of computer operation,
Alternatively, it has recently been frequently used as a pictorial symbol to convey the current status of the computer to the user, or the design of the symbol is often determined by the experience or preference of the icon creator. Therefore, some icons may confuse users when operating a computer. In order to avoid user confusion, it is necessary to evaluate the ease of recognition of the message conveyed by the icon.

A conventional evaluation method generally involves presenting an actual icon to a person to whom the icon is presented, and determining the ease of recognition of the transmitted message based on the percentage of correct answers to the message content. However, with this method, evaluation results are often not obtained as general evaluation results because they depend on the characteristics of the group of people being presented.

Additionally, since this evaluation method is based on the impression received directly from the icon's design, it is difficult to determine whether the object selected for the icon that received the highest evaluation score is the one that conveys the message most accurately. A group of object elements that have a relationship with , and a group of physical characteristic elements of each object element,
Using a semantic memory model with a network structure that is hierarchically linked with strength according to the degree of relationship based on experimental verification, object elements that should be adopted as pictorial symbols to convey a certain message element and the corresponding object elements are determined. It is characterized by deriving physical characteristic elements that serve as the pattern creation policy for pictorial symbols.

(Function) According to the method for deriving a picture to be adopted as a pictorial symbol of the present invention, the semantic memory model is used to determine the object element to be adopted in a pictorial symbol for conveying a certain message element and the picture of the pictorial symbol. By deriving physical characteristic elements that serve as the creation policy, it does not reflect personal subjectivity.
Accurately 1 picture of a common message expression symbol common to all people! It becomes possible to do so.

In the figure, 1 is an input section for inputting the name of a function in computer operation that is the target of pattern derivation; 2 is a message judgment section that judges the message associated with the function name input from the input section; and 3 is an experiment. A semantic memory model storage unit stores a human semantic memory model (described later) constructed using a network structure based on verification; and 4 is a message judgment unit 2, which calculates the above semantic memory model from the icon message judged by the message judgment unit 2. An output section 5 outputs data derived using the above-described control section, and 5 is a control section that performs overall control of each of the above-mentioned components.

As shown in the figure, this semantic memory model includes a group of message elements 21- conveyed by a pictorial symbol, a group of object elements 22 that have a relationship with each message element, and a group of physical characteristic elements 23 for each object element. A network structure is constructed by hierarchically linking these with the strength according to the degree of relevance based on experimental verification.
