Traditionally, three-tier folding Western umbrellas have been widely used, but if you want to shorten the length of the umbrella when folded, it is necessary to shorten the length of the ribs and spines, but when the umbrella is opened, In order to maintain the size above a certain level, it is impossible to shorten these lengths indefinitely, and this has the disadvantage of being inconvenient for storage and portability.

Accordingly, in the "shortenable umbrella" described in Japanese Patent Publication No. 44-30665, the umbrella rib can be shortened, but in this case, the main rib is expanded and contracted. The "folding umbrella" described in Japanese Patent Publication No. 51-02861 also has a structure in which the umbrella ribs can be shortened, but the shortening means has angle changes, making it difficult and inconvenient to extend and retract. "Folding Western Umbrella" described in Japanese Patent Publication No. 48-19354, "Totsu Press Type Three-tier Folding Western Umbrella" described in Japanese Patent Publication No. 54-14534, or
In the "umbrella cloth retracting device for a totsu press type folding umbrella" described in Publication No. 54-16783, the length of the struts and support bones remains constant, so it is difficult to shorten the umbrella any further. . Also, Jitsukō 49-00195
The "folding umbrella handle" described in the publication had three stages of expansion and contraction, and could not be shortened sufficiently when folded.
Furthermore, Japanese Patent Application Laid-open No. 48-76648 discloses a "three-tier folding western umbrella" in which the length of the supporting bones can be expanded and contracted. There are problems such as the use of multiple units makes the structure delicate, increases manufacturing costs, and increases the number of causes of failure.

Japanese Patent Publication No. 49-24381 discloses a structure of an umbrella rib that can be folded into four stages, but of the two divided ribs, the rib on the tip side is simply rotatable at the tip of the other rib. Since the umbrella was only attached to the top of the umbrella, it was not always easy to use, as the umbrella did not open properly when opened, and it sometimes had to be folded by hand when closing.

The structure in which the main rib is divided into two parts and foldable as described above was first proposed by the present inventor in Japanese Patent Application No. 56-142403.
The method disclosed in Japanese Patent Publication No. 60-30203 can be adopted. By dividing the main rib 4 into the first main rib 41 and the second main rib 42 as described above and connecting them with the slide hook 9 and the wire 91 as described above, when closing the umbrella, the first main rib 41 and the second main rib 42 are connected as shown in FIG. The main rib 41 and the second main rib 42 are folded over each other, and when the umbrella is opened, the inner end of the second main rib 42 is pulled by the wire 91 and rotated relative to the first main rib 41. The main rib 41 and the second main rib 42 are automatically expanded into a straight line.

In the above embodiment, when opening the umbrella, when the lower potter's wheel 5 is pushed up toward the tip side along the umbrella shaft 7, the sub-branches 2 are expanded outward via the power bone 2'. , accordingly, the second support bone 12 becomes the first support bone 11
is pushed outward along the In such a case, a part of the sub-branch 2, the second sub-branch 12, and the first main bone 4
A link mechanism formed by a part of the first rib 1 and the connecting bone 3 is activated, and the first rib 41 is also expanded into an open state. At this time, the length of the support bone 1 is the sum of the length of the first support bone 11 and the second support bone 12.

At that time, the first rib 41 and the second rib 42 are also expanded in a straight line by the action of the slide hook 9 and the wire 91 to form an open umbrella state, thereby forming the fifth rib.
Achieves a large opening radius equivalent to that of the conventional western umbrella shown in the figure.

On the other hand, when closing the umbrella, when the lower potter's wheel 5 is pulled down toward the hand along the umbrella shaft, the sub-branch 2 is drawn toward the umbrella shaft 7, and the second branch 12 is also drawn toward the umbrella shaft. As a result, the first support rib 11 and the second support bone 12 contract, and at the same time, the link mechanism is deformed and the wire 91 is loosened, so that the second support rib 42 is turned against the first support rib 41 as shown in FIG. It is rotated clockwise and folded over the first rib 41, resulting in a short folded state as shown in FIG.

In conventional folding Western umbrellas, the length when folded is generally the length when the support and main ribs are folded, but in the Western umbrella according to the present invention, In this case, the strut 1 can be divided into the first strut 11 and the second strut 12, and one of them can be inserted into the other to reduce the size, so the length when folded is shorter than that of the conventional one. It is possible to make it significantly shorter, and the main rib 4 is also shorter than the first main rib 41.
Since it is divided into a second rib 42 and a second main rib 42, when it is folded, it is possible to achieve an extremely short folded state as shown in FIG.

On the other hand, the Western umbrella according to the present invention has a substantially four-fold structure, with the supporting ribs being divided into two and the main rib being divided into two, so the length when folded is: (500 mm - 50 mm) ÷ 4+50mm=162.5mm.
