御する放電灯点灯装置において、コンデンサとト
ランスの1次巻線からなる共振回路及びこの共振
回路を動作させる共振スイツチを有する直流−交
流変換回路と前記トランスの2次巻線に整流素子
を介して平滑機能を有する出力コンデンサを並列
的に接続した交流−直流変換回路とで構成される
複数の直流−直流コンバータと、この各コンバー
タの出力コンデンサを直列に接続し、その直列回
路の両端間に前記放電灯のフイラメント電極の各
端子を接続して形成される予熱回路と、始動時に
対して放電灯点灯後のコンバータの動作数を減少
制御する制御手段を設けたことを特徴とする放電
灯点灯装置。 (2) コンデンサとトランスの1次巻線からなる
共振回路及びこの共振回路を動作させる共振スイ
ツチを有する直流−交流変換回路と前記トランス
の1次巻線に対して電気的に絶縁されたトランス
の2次巻線に整流素子を介して出力コンデンサを
並列的に接続した交流−直流変換回路とで構成さ
れる複数の点灯用直流−直流コンバータ並びに複
数の予熱用直流−直流コンバータと、前記各点灯
用コンバータの出力コンデンサを直列に接続した
第1の直列回路と、前記各予熱用コンバータの出
力コンデンサを直列に接続した第2の直列回路と
、前記第1の直列回路の両端間に各フイラメント
電極がそれぞれ接続された放電灯と、前記第2の
直列回路の両端間に前記放電灯のフイラメント電
極の各端子を接続して形成される予熱回路と、始
動時に対して放電灯点灯後の前記各予熱用コンバ
ータの動作数を減少制御する制御手段を設けたこ
