6(b)に示すように縮径部5を加工するものである。
この加工は図1に示すような第1の成形工程と、図2に
示すような第2の成形工程と、図3に示すような第3の
トリミング工程よりなる。第1の成形工程では、一対の
ウェーブロール2にて波付け加工する。図1(a)に示
すように複数の山部と谷部と交互に有する一対のウェー
ブロール2にて金属パイプ1の端部の外面と内面を加圧
して挟み、一対のウェーブロール2を逆方向に回転駆動
して金属パイプ1の端部の全周に図1(b)に示すよう
に波4を付ける。このとき波4の谷部4bは絞り込み部
となり、山部4aが絞り込みより生じる変形を吸収する
絞り込み吸収部となる。第2の成形工程では、段部を有
する一対のフラットロール3にて図2(a)に示すよう
に波4の外面と内面を加圧して挟み、一対のフラットロ
ール3を逆に回転駆動して山部4aを潰して平坦にする
。これにより、山部4aが潰れて図2(b)に示すよう
な略平滑な縮径部5が形成される。第3のトリミング工
程では図3(a)に示すように縮径部5内に中子ロール
7が挿入され、縮径部5の外面に丸こま8を圧接し、丸
こま8で全周に亘って切断され、端部に図3(b)、図
4に示すように面取り部9が形成される。このようにし
て図5に示すような縮径部5が形成され、外面に若干の
凹凸10を有している。このように形成された縮径部5
は接続部として用いられ、他の金属パイプ1の端部を被
嵌して接続される。このとき若干の凹凸10があると、
抜け止め効果や、接着剤の溜め効果や、毛細管現象を断
