ストルメントパネルやステアリング等の固定側に取付け
られたベースプレート1にガス発生器2が固着され、ガ
ス注入口4を有するエアバッグ本体3がリテーナ5を介
してリベット6またはボルト等により固着され、所定の
条件のもとでガス発生器が作動した場合にガスが瞬間的
にエアバッグ本体3内に流入し、エアバッグ本体3が瞬
時に膨出するようになされている。前記エアバッグ本体
3は折り畳んだ状態で、合成樹脂製のカバー部材7の内
部に収納され、位置規制された状態で被覆され、車両等
のインストルメントパネル側の部品等にエアバッグ本体
3が当接しないようになされている。前記カバー部材7
の外周縁7aがベースプレート1の端部1aにリベット
8またはボルト等により固着されている。そして前記エ
アバッグ本体3の膨出時にカバー部材7の上面に形成さ
れた薄肉部7bが破断し、エアバッグ本体3が前方に膨
出するようになされている。また従来のエアバッグ装置
においては、前記エアバッグ本体3は黒色系に着色され
た合成樹脂製のカバー部材7の内部に収納され、カバー
部材7の内部が透視できないようなされている。また車
両等のインストルメントパネル側の部品の隙間より前記
カバー部材7が見えにくいように黒色系に着色された合
成樹脂製のカバー部材7が用いられている。

ッグ本体3の折り畳み状態が正確に保持されているか否
かを外部より確認することができないものであつた。本
発明の目的は、カバー部材の取付けの際にエアバッグ本
体の噛み込み等を防止することができ、カバー部材の取
付け状態を外部から視認することができ、カバー部材の
取付けを簡易迅速に行うことができ、また車両の走行中
に車両の振動がエアバッグ本体に与えられた場合にも、
エアバッグ本体の折り畳み収納状態が変形しているか否
かを外部から簡易に確認することができ、衝突等の有事
の際にエアバッグ本体を所望の形状で確実に膨出させる
ことができる著しく安全性に優れたエアバッグ装置を提
供するものである。

とりつけられる。図1に示す如く、エアバッグ装置11
は図3に示すと同様に、ベースプレート13にボルト,
ナット等の固着手段により固定されたガス発生器12と
、このガス発生器12よりのガスが流入するガス注入口
を有するエアバッグ本体14とを備えている。前記エア
バッグ本体14は折畳んだ状態でカバー部材15により
被覆されている。カバー部材15はベースプレート13
の端部13aに複数のリベット17等により固着された
下部が開放された例えば合成樹脂製のカバー基部15a
と、該カバー基部15aの外周縁に沿って、高周波溶着
、または接着等により固着された前記カバー基部15a
より強度の小さい合成樹脂製のカバー上部15bとから
形成されている。前記カバー部材15は、例えばPP,
PC,PEの等の合成樹脂材、またはこれらにエラスト
マーを混入したものが用いられる。尚カバー部材15は
カバー基部15aとカバー上部15bとから形成される
ものに限定されるものではなく、カバー基部15aとカ
バー上部15bとを一体に形成したものであってもよく
、要はカバー上部15bが容易に破断し得るものであれ
ばよい。そして前記カバー上部15bの長手方向の中央
部にミシン目スリット21が形成されている。尚ミシン
目スリット21の中央部に菱形の透孔等を形成してもよ
い。また符号15cはリベット17用の透孔である。

状で確実に膨出させることができる著しく安全性に優れ
たエアバッグ装置を得ることができる。
